On Sept. 26, 1988, 8-year-old Miranda Chavez, now 37, wrote a letter that she put in a bottle and threw out to sea on Edisto Beach, South Carolina.

The bottle was found 29 years later by Linda Humphries and her husband David about 90 miles from where Miranda threw it, while they were cleaning the beach.

When Linda and husband could not find Miranda Chavez in the address written on the letter, they continued to search for her on Facebook.

Chavez was very surprised when she found out the letter she wrote 29 years ago had been discovered.

“Who would have thought? It's so awesome how something that small — no matter what you've got going on in your life — can take you back to your childhood and to some of the absolute happiest times of your life,” she said.

Chavez is now a 37-year-old mother. She got in contact with many of her schoolmates again thanks to the comments her post about her message in a bottle got on Facebook.

“It was meant to do something, even if it was just to have people have something positive to say for a few days,” she said.
