Clashes in Syria's capital, Damascus, between the opposition and the Assad regime continue as the opposition makes advances in the government sieged city.

Despite a nationwide ceasefire, the Assad regime and its allies have continued to launch attacks and take over areas including the Barada Valley in Damascus.

Opposition forces have advanced in the Qaboun, Tishrin, Barzeh, eastern Ghouta, Harasta, Douma, Saqba and Arbin areas that are besieged by the regime forces.

Sources in the region have reported that intense clashes broke out where eastern Ghouta and Qaboun meet, to the west of Jobar and the north of Qaboun.

The opposition announced that 50 airstrikes have been launched since Sunday night on regime forces in easter Ghouta and Jobar.

The opposition can be seen advancing toward Damascus:

The Faylaq al-Rahman, Ahrar al-Sham, Tahrir al-Sham opposition groups announced on their social media accounts that a large part of the industrial area between Jobar and Qaboun, the electricity station,a small garage, textiles factories and television factory were recaptured.

The Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, an offshoot of the al-Nusra Front which is listed as a terrorist organization by the United Nations Security Council, abolished itself and joined the Tahrir al-Sham group.

Sieging and deportation in rural Damascus continues

The Assad regime and its allies are continuing to siege the rural parts of Damascus.

Opposition forces were left with no choice but to leave the Barada Valley in the west of the countryside, El Tal and the Sirkaya regions as they were blockaded and severely attacked by the regime forces.

A nationwide ceasefire was brokered by Russia and Turkey and implemented on Dec. 30 2016.

Ankara is the guarantor of the opposition forces, who only launch defensive attacks in response to the regimes attacks. Moscow is the guarantor of the regime forces, which constantly violates the ceasefire.

The opposition did not participate in the last meeting on the ceasefire in Kazakhstan's capital, Astana, on the grounds that Russia and the regime failed to fulfill their commitments.
