Turkish warplanes carried out air strikes against 12 Daesh targets in the al-Bab region of northern Syria on Wednesday and killed 23 terrorists, Turkey's military said.

The statement also said one Turkish soldier was killed and six were wounded, one of them seriously, in a vehicle-borne bomb attack in the area on Wednesday morning. Media reports earlier said two soldiers were killed in the attack.

Al-Bab, a strategic city linking Manbij and Raqqa with Aleppo.

Operation Euphrates Shield, which was launched on Aug. 24, aims to improve security, support coalition forces and eliminate the terror threat along Turkey's southern border, using the Free Syrian Army, or FSA, fighters backed by Turkish armor, artillery and jets.
