Turkish jets destroy PKK targets in northern Iraq

Turkish jets destroyed scores of caves and shelters used by PKK terrorists in northern Iraq early on Wednesday, the military said.

The Turkish General Staff said in a statement that the air operation took place in northern Iraq's Zap and Avasin-Basyan regions at midnight and 1.30 a.m. (2100-2230GMT).

The military did not provide information on potential casualties.

More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
