A farmhouse in Canada was purchased for Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) ringleader Fetullah Gülen following the Trump administration's positive outlook on the possibility of Gülen's extradition.

Unlike the U.S. and Turkey, Canada and Turkey do not have an extradition agreement. Moving from the U.S. to Canada would mean that Gülen would not be subject to extradition.

U.S. requested information from Turkey

The Trump administration requested information from Turkey regarding Gülen's possible escape plans, and Turkey's Ministry of Justice provided the relevant information to the U.S. last Friday.

Among the shared intelligence was the address of the farmhouse that was purchased, those involved in the purchase and when it was purchased.

Those who purchased the farmhouse are Turkish citizens, however their identities were kept secret.

“We have gathered serious intelligence that there has been the purchase of farmhouses, especially in Canada," said Turkey's Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ, who also announced that FETÖ has been purchasing farmhouses in countries other than Canada, as well.

Request for Gülen's temporary arrest

Turkey has demanded the temporary arrest of Gülen in the U.S. in accordance with the 1979 extradition treaty between Ankara and Washington.

Developments of FETÖ ringleader Gülen's extradition to Turkey have advanced more rapidly since U.S. President Donald Trump took over from the Obama administration.

Turkey has sent 85 boxes of evidence proving Gülen was behind the failed coup and is the mastermind behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the Turkish state.

Turkey's Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ also traveled to the U.S. to meet with officials and discuss the extradition, however the Obama administration did not make much progess in reviewing the documents.
