US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Sunday that the four Arab states, which imposed a boycott on Qatar, proposed a list of demands that was “very difficult for Qatar to meet.”

Tillerson urged the Gulf nations to work together in order to reach a resolution.

"For a productive step to be taken these countries have to come together and collaborate," Tillerson said in a statement.

"We believe our allies and partners are stronger when they are working together towards one goal which we all agree is stopping terrorism and countering extremism."

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates have sent a 13-point list of demands to Qatar.

"A lowering of rhetoric would also help ease the tension," Tillerson said, adding that the United States will remain in close contact with all the countries involved.

The Saudi-led bloc demanded Qatar to close a Turkish army base, scale down ties with Iran and shut down Al Jazeera, among other requests.

"It is disrespectful toward Turkey to demand the withdawal of its soldiers," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.

Erdoğan also said “The 13-point list is against international law.”
