The Turkish foreign minister on Wednesday expressed condolences over the passing of his Zimbabwean counterpart.

Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Twitter that he learned with deep sorrow the death of Sibusiso Moyo, who succumbed to COVID-19 earlier in the day. He was 61.

“Heartfelt condolences to his family and friendly people of #Zimbabwe. May God bless his soul,” Cavusoglu added.

Widely seen as a representative of the military, he was the third Zimbabwean minister to die of coronavirus.

While Ellen Gwaradzimba, a provincial minister, died of the disease last week, Agriculture Minister Perrance Shiri succumbed to the illness last July.

The country has seen a spike in infections since the start of the new year.

With 783 new cases and 52 related deaths in the last 24 hours, Zimbabwe has registered 28,675 cases and 825 fatalities to date.
