Asian, European markets in negative territory

Both Asian, European indices post losses

Asian stock exchanges closed Thursday with negative results due to strong sales, while European markets were also in the negative territory.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, lost 39.56 points, or 1%, to close at nearly 3,921 points.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 was also down 546.97 points, or 1.87%, to 28,708.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, fell 118.49 points, or 0.45%, to 26,017.

The Singapore index dropped by 9.58 points, or 0.3%, to 3,188, and the Indian Sensex shed 271.57 points, or 0.44%, to close at 60,988.

China’s Shanghai stock exchange was the only index to post an increase, rising 7.78 points, or 0.22%, to 3,594.


- European markets

The STOXX Europe 600, which includes around 90% of market capitalization of the European market in 17 countries, was down by 0.73 points, or 0.16%, to 469.34 as of 1053GMT.

London’s FTSE 100 fell by 20.81 points, or 0.29%, to 7,202, while Germany’s DAX index was at 15,504 points, down by 18.25 points or 0.12%.

The French CAC 40 dropped by 21.28 points, or 0.32%, to 6,684, and Italy’s FTSE MIB slipped by 73.31 points, or 0.28%, to 26,508 points.

Spain’s IBEX 35 lost 63.7 points, or 0.71%, to hit 8,954 points.
