Superstar Lebron James will join the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA), former Laker legend Kobe Bryant announced on Twitter late Sunday.

In a Twitter post, Kobe Bryant welcomed Lebron 'King' James to Los Angeles: "Welcome to family @KingJames."

Bryant, in tweet, also congratulated team owner Jeanie Buss and President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson for landing the 33-year-old in California.

According to reports in the U.S. media, James' contract will be 4 years long and is worth $154 million.

Struggling to make the playoffs in the recent years, Lakers were expected to land some big name players in this summer's free agency period, including Lebron James and Paul George.

However, George on late Saturday announced during his team Oklahoma City Thunder's party that he will stay with the Thunder.

Lakers also agreed deals with Lance Stephenson -- who is known to have feuds with Lebron during matches in previous years -- and JaVale McGee, two-time NBA Champion with the Golden State Warriors.
