U.S. President Donald Trump is whitewashing Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whom the CIA deems is the instigator of the “Jamal Khashoggi murder.” Moreover, Trump also held the world responsible, saying "Maybe the world should be held accountable because the world is a vicious place. The world is a very, very vicious place."
The U.S. is the biggest economy in the world and it has been the gendarmerie of the global system for a very long time. The defense budget of the U.S., which has bases basically all over the world, is equal to the other countries’ defense budgets combined. The savings of the taxpayers is being spent to feed this insatiable monster. Pentagon, on the other hand, is seen as a commercial enterprise.
The light of the U.S., which once was presenting itself to the world as the “American Dream,” has gone out. The young generations of America are living in worse conditions than their parents and they have lost their hope that these conditions will improve. The U.S. is on the top of the list for income and wealth inequality. This inequality produces new illnesses: crime rates are increasing, and the types of crimes are evolving. The Trump administration is trying to shift the blame of its own crisis onto immigrants. The people fleeing Latin America have already arrived at U.S. borders. The Trump administration is trying to stop this flow by deploying troops to the borders. A similar immigrant movement also exists on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Great humanitarian tragedies are occurring in the Western world, both on the European side and on the American side. The African immigrants who want to live in humane conditions are crossing the Mediterranean with rotten boats at the risk of their lives.
The U.S. supported the military coups in Latin America during the “Cold War” era. The military governments established after these coups damaged the economic, cultural and social structures of those countries. Thus the fundamentals of bad economies, poverty and deadly violence were laid. Western European colonizers carried out the same practices in Asia and Africa as well. These rich regions were ruined by them in 50-60 years. What lies behind the enrichment of the U.S. is the tears of the people who were abducted in Africa and enslaved in America. The West, both Europe and the U.S., is now paying the price of its sins.
Those who invite people to pessimism by saying, “If the U.S. won’t sell weapons, China and Russia will” are saying that “the world is a vicious place.” The security of Israel in the Middle East is being disguised under the mask of “America First”. Trump recently stated that “Without Saudi Arabia, we wouldn’t have a major base in the Middle East. Israel would be in big trouble without Saudi Arabia.” In a rally, he said, "I get along great with all of them (Saudis); they buy apartments from me. They spend $40-$50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much!" His philosophy is not “humanity first,” it’s “money first.”
The U.S. is also on the top of the list both for arms per capita and for gun related-homicides. The Trump administration, on the other hand, is trying to block initiatives to limit individual armament. Meanwhile, it seems a “meaning crisis,” a “moral crisis” has deepened in the U.S. Young generations are running fleeing from churches. The population of the evangelical Christians, Trump’s loyal supporters, is diminishing. According to a recent research, while worldwide suicide rates are decreasing, it is increasing in the U.S. Thousands of people are committing suicide every year or die due to overdose.
The U.S. is primarily responsible for the carbon emission in the world over the last two centuries. The Trump administration, however, made fossil fuel companies happy by withdrawing from the “Paris Climate Agreement” which was signed by 196 other states. Trump rejects the idea that human activities caused climate change, but as we see in the wildfires in California, he is experiencing the bitter effects of it. The “Fourth National Climate Assessment Report,” which was prepared by 13 federal institutions for the U.S. Congress, is on the other hand warning that more serious risks are on the way.
Those who made the world an unlivable place are those who say “the world is a vicious place”… Those who are benefiting from enormity are not competent to give order to the world. The immigrants, by addressing the “powerful” now say, “Damn this world!” and are seeking a “new order.” This is the cry that needs to be heard.
