They were caught red-handed in Libya, but…

U.S.-made weapons and missiles were found in the city of Gharyan which is controlled by General Haftar, who fought against the UN-recognized Tripoli Government in Libya. It was revealed that the weapons were sold to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the U.S. One would think that the transferal of these weapons to third parties by countries receiving said arms from Washington is subject to strict authorization and rules.

Meanwhile, this development shows that the UN embargo imposed on Libya has been breached. The UAE, on the other hand, denied ownership of the weapons and argued that it was committed to the UN embargo. Of course they’re not going to say “We gave them these weapons”!

It is a grave development that U.S. weapons have fallen into the hands of an illegitimate force. Bob Menendez, the most senior Democratic member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, wrote a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asking for an investigation to be launched into the weapons found in Gharyan. Menendez said that any arms sales to the UAE should be stopped if these claims are proven to be true.

Initially, the U.S. supported the “National Unity Government in Tripoli.” But through National Security Adviser John Bolton, Trump supported Haftar's attacks against Tripoli.

If we look at the information leaked to U.S. media, Trump's meeting with Egyptian dictator General al-Sisi was instrumental in reversing his decision. On April 9, 2019, Trump met with General al-Sisi, who asked him to support Haftar. UAE Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Zayed also spoke with the U.S. president.

Immediately following these developments, Trump spoke to Haftar and announced his support.

Emirati support for Haftar is nothing new. In 2017, the London-based news website Middle East Eye published e-mails containing correspondence between the UAE Ambassador to the United States Yousef al-Otaiba and U.S. National Security Advisor Susan Rice. Said correspondence also referred to arms shipments from the UAE to Haftar. The same news site also included a report by the UN Security Council, which claimed the UAE had sent weapons, equipment and ammunition to Haftar.

In a special investigative report from the field published in early February, CNN revealed that arms sold by the U.S. to the Saudis and Emiratis ended up in the hands of militias in Yemen, where they were used against civilians.

The Pentagon openly acknowledged that the weapons sold by the U.S. to these two countries are not allowed to be passed on to third parties, which violates the contracts signed. The Pentagon has opened an investigation, but we have yet to hear anything.

These are open secrets. Despite all these claims, the Trump administration continues to sell arms to the UAE and the Saudis. Although the House of Representatives and the Senate have taken decisions to block arms sales to these two countries, Trump has declared 22 emergency situations under the pretext of Iran and approved the arms deals. Not only Democrats, but also Republicans are reacting to Trump resorting to bypass Congress on the grounds of an emergency.

The evil forces that have long meddled in the Muslim world are destroying every attempt aimed at expanding rights and freedoms, crushing every blooming flower with American boots. Of course, these forces are aware that they will not be able to survive one day without the support of the U.S. and other imperialists. By supporting these evil forces, the imperialists are the lifeline of the repressive climate that dominates the central basins of Islamic civilization. But the seed is sown into the ground, the wheel of history cannot be un-turned. Every wilted flower will reopen when it can breathe again. Let those who don't want to believe this consult the chronicles of history!
