US’s Israel Lobby fighting against troop pullout from Syria

Trump's decision to withdraw American troops from Syria faced violent opposition from both Republicans and Democrats in Congress. Of course, this bipartisan opposition is putting pressure on Trump, who is preparing for the 2020 elections.

Among the Republicans, Senators Lindsey Graham, Mitt Romney and Marco Rubio and Trump's former ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, are the most resentful of Trump's decision. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, who presided Although Trump agreed between Ankara government wants to bring heavy sanctions on Turkey. McConnell objected to the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria.

In 2012, Mitt Romney was a Republican candidate for President. Romney was defeated by Democratic candidate Barack Obama. Senator Rubio was a candidate for President in 2016, but Trump clenched the nomination in the primaries. The far right wing of the Israeli Lobby, primarily billionaire businessman Sheldon Adelson, first supported Rubio, but when he dropped out, they had to support Trump this time.

In 2016, Senator Graham, who did not support Trump's candidacy for President, changed the position after Trump was elected President. Trump’s pro-Israel policies played a role in this change of heart. Graham, one of Trump's most powerful defenders in the Senate, has become a different character when it comes to Israel's interests. Israel benefits most from U.S. military presence in Syria. Graham, Netanyahu's closest ally in the U.S. Senate, is thus leading the opposition against Trump's attempt to withdraw troops.

Although Trump has made significant concessions to Israel, Tel Aviv is always demanding more. Romney, Graham and Mitch McConnell rushed into action, openly claiming that Trump's decision to withdraw from Syria has a negative impact on Israel and harms its interests. They're now doing whatever they can to stop Trump.

Trump, who promised his voters in 2016 to withdraw U.S. troops from wars overseas, has so far failed to keep this promise. Trump knows he has to do this in order to be elected a second time. The pro-Israel Democrats and Republicans are struggling to prevent the U.S. from leaving Syria. Few names among Republicans support Trump's decision. One is Senator Rand Paul and the other is Senator Mike Braun. Warren Davidson, a member of the House of Representatives, is among those who think that Syria is the beginning for Trump's decision to end the forever wars.

On the other hand, pro-Trump media outlets seem to have waged war against Romney, Graham and Rubio. "Breitbart News," in particular, published Graham and Romney's earlier pro-Turkey comments, questioning the reason behind the two senators’ change of heart. Trump, however, accuses Romney of secretly cooperating with the Democrats.

We need to recall that Sen. Rand Paul recently voted against a draft resolution condemning Turkey at the Senate. Paul had some very harsh criticism directed at Graham, Rubio, Romney and Haley, accusing the Democrats of being hypocritical. It was noteworthy that some Democrats who argued that the United States should not participate in wars in foreign countries criticized Trump's decision to withdraw troops from Syria.

Senator Paul and his colleagues argue that the presence of American troops in Syria has nothing to do with national interests. Those who opposed “Neocon” policies point out that endless wars led to more chaos, more instability and more terrorism in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria. If there is no national interest that requires the U.S. to have troops in Syria, whose interest is it? For those who know the influence of the Israeli Lobby on American politics, the answer is clear.
