Coping with anger

All the reforms and the progress taken so far cannot simply change the social fabric. Looking from a certain angle, we might say that the community kind of social fabric is the most significant sociological data and the biggest political problem in Turkey.

In our case, society is intertwined within itself and, thus, we are encountering a series of social groups, which stand in line with each other.

These community groups are a bunch of people. Among them are conservatives, seculars, Kurds, Alevites, leftists, nationalists and minorities, who are living in their own closed value systems just like in the dhimmi status. The common grounds such as confidence, politics, and values usually stay behind.

The main problem of such fabric sits on the relationships among the above-mentioned groups. Contacts tend to increase among the periods of democratic waves, reforms, and economic and political stability.

It is possible to imagine Turkey like this among 2002-2007 and even in 2010. The greater the demand for freedom, with its level and motions embracing various parts of the society, the wider the doors for interaction open and the search for common definitions increases. In turn of that, at the times of decline or when power, representation, visibility balance and hierarchical relationships among communities deteriorate, relationships become cut off and polarizations encounter us. Blocks occur in which people do not hear, comprehend or even realize each other.

Turkey''s last few years are an example of this. Such types of polarization and disconnection periods bear a significant feature. The confinement of the society means its imprisonment in politics. The domination of politics on society, the social one and social groups is born with polarization. Unfortunately, it is led into a vicious cycle, which nurtures polarization.

In short, strongly ''becoming the other'' or ''otherization'' or the new communalization is such a process that reproduces so easily and do not vanish easily.

This is our main problem today. Corruption, degeneration, political style, authoritarization, identity politics, politicization of objections and almost all of these, at least one intertwining and bearing the other, are in a unity which are falling under the category of dynamics and outcomes.

Of course, in the last 10 years, especially in the field of sociology, many transformations have taken place. Identities have been reconstructed and pursued in a more libertarian way. However, as we see the main fabric and the strong seed of mentality being quite resilient to change, the path ahead seems to extend.

Check this out:

Today in Turkey, all its actors, politicians and activists, journalists, the religious, youth and other social elements have been entrapped with a strangling political polarization.

None of the players want a gateway from this situation. None of them gives out a clue or a light for hope. The gateway is misconceptualized as the defeat of opponents or their crush in a propelling manner, and such blindness is widespread.

The press needs no words: authors are strict and young people are irate.

Fury and polarization are like a hungry wolf, which is devouring everything on the way and finishing it. Polarization is one of the major problems besides the political issues of Turkey, including the constitution law, economy and foreign policies, as well as ISIL.

To appease the anger and decrease polarization and turn this aircraft the other way around must be one of the first and foremost targets of this government and all the other political actors.
