Erdoğan"s new Turkey definition...

After Ihsanoglu, yesterday, it was Tayyip Erdogan"s turn to announce his vision statement.

This time we weren"t facing a leader candidate, whom we were trying to learn who he was or what he was going to do. Instead, we had in front us a politician, who has no other possibility then winning the elections, and accordingly, to whose future perspective we pay attention.

The perspective had been described right at the beginning with the slogan of the vision statement:

"Democratic, prosperous, pioneer country..."

Then how?

In his opening speech, Erdogan was basing his expressions on the "triple contradiction", which took its power from AK Party policies and lead him to power, and kept him there:

- Nation against state, - change against status quo, - new Turkey against old Turkey.

The opening speech and vision statement was pointing at the "Complete integrity between future president Erdogan and AK Party". It was emphasizing that in the event of Erdogan being elected as the president, then the AK Party will enter a new period under his administration, and, there will be an unavoidable and desired consistency between the past period and the present period.

Thus, the vision statement was, aligning AK Party"s success fields, talking about success, saying that the main objective of a president should be continuing the success in the same fields.

What are these fields?

What are the special incidents that were underlined within the frame of these fields?

If Tayyip Erdogan becomes the president, what kind of a will power will he follow for the continuation of success?

For the first answer, we should head back to the slogan of the vision statement. The fields are aligned there: "Democratization" via internal politics, community and normalization, "prosperity" via public services, social state and economical success, "Pioneering and leader country" via foreign policy and self-reliance. As we said, in each one of them, Erdogan"s principal is appropriation and continuity. Within the frame of this continuity, he is promising the deepening of the success in these fields.

Mentioning democratization was, without a doubt, the richest and spectacular part in the sense of both past and future and promises. It was remarkable that the Prime Minister was citing pluralism, which he described as the democratic life based around the creation of integrity by the differentiations in the platform of global values, as the "target". And, he was trying to place the democratization mentioned with the pluralism idea, as much as the contradiction we mentioned above. Between the elements, he especially underlined that the "resolution process", "need for a new constitution" and "civilian principal and open society layout in the religion-state relations" were included within the frame of democratization. Its obvious that the new constitution issue, which will be a critical step in the solution of the Kurdish problem which will involve the presidential government system, will be the main objective of AK Party and Erdogan in the forthcoming period and especially on the way to the 2015 elections. It"s clearly understood that the second important objective will be the "resolution process", which Erdogan had underlined especially. He stated that in case it concludes with success, he would direct all the institutions and be a close follower.

As for the congregation issue, which the Prime Minister had referred to a couple of times and described as a gang and stated that it should be cleaned up... It can be seen that the conflict experienced with the congregation and the attacks of the congregation are shaping the new requirement and expression. This is where "democratic laicism" is involved – straight from the Prime Minister"s mouth – as being the vision of the future president, in our political life. This is what the prime minister meant: "The state cannot have dominance over religion; while on the contrary, also the religious groups cannot have dominance over the state and other religious structures. The religious field is shaped with its own dynamics and being a civilian is the element that indicates the state-religion relations. The law protects the freedom of religious field and prevents the misuse of freedom."

It"s necessary to write down this input and its importance...

You will be reading the prosperity and foreign policy parts of the vision statements in the newspaper. Let"s be content in saying that the prime minister had emphasized the need of a broader strategy by pointing out the new region dynamics in the topic of foreign policy.

As for the other topic, the question of "what kind of a presidential practice"...

Reading between the lines of Erdogan"s speech, he was saying, "A practice, which doesn"t produce a policy, but rather directs the production and protects it..."

His words – like being a close follower, protecting and directing related with the resolution process – were signs of this.
