Loyalty…

After the annihilation of the old guardianship and military system, we are face to face with “historical baggage” that comes into play during the establishment of the new system.

What’s this historical baggage?

This baggage is the reality of the Turkish community being formed of different congregations that live side by side. It’s the attempt of the political understanding to expand every community’s or congregation’s own living space to the detriment of others’ in this communitarian tissue.

Anomaly, pragmatism, inclusion and loyalty are the essential signs of this functioning. In Turkey, all the fights, polarizations that rest on the base of life style, for example secular-religionist, Alawite-Sunni tension; they are some of the arbiter examples of the politicization style.

This tissue was always reflected from the communal and political area on to the government area, government institutions, police, judiciary and other bureaucratic units.

Military control on the government area, the higher judicial body’s design by the political center and government ideology, had kept this reflection limited for a long period. In other words, this reflection had been single-sided and stayed within the sovereignty of a single community.

The chaos experienced today is the mid-term disarray, which became evident after this sovereignty was broken. The disarray became visible as different communities came into play. Perceptibly, as it was revealed with the December 17th – 25th incidents, we can define this as the confiscation of the judiciary and some government institutions by the Gülen-led group in a non-transparent fashion and the state of using it for its own benefits.

However, the display is surrounding all actors, ranging from the Gülen-led group to the political rulership.

As mistrust and isolations, which are produced over rulership conflicts directed at controlling the government area, provoke a structuring that absolutizes the loyalty pursuit, the trouble increases.

As a result, Turkey is breathing the issue, which became evident through the reflection of the communitarian tissue on the government area. This display is advancing on a scale that expands from government institutions to the press.

Possibly, this issue has the potential to cause bigger problems directed at the future and states of partisanship that are difficult to resolve. For example, under the given conditions today, who can say that, following the removal of police colleges and Police Academy, the first criteria sought in the policemen, who will be appointed after an interview upon requests from various universities, will not be political inclusion and loyalty?

This is only one side of the coin…

On the other, there is the matter of how group loyalties will exist in the government area.

Isn’t it that this issue, whose historical and sociological roots are deep, even causes an area and rulership fight between different Islamic tendencies or communities?

Then, it’s necessary to identify the phase we are at in the transformation process, as the re-specification of the political conditions and limits of being a member of any identity or community in the government field.

This necessity will be confronting us in every point, ranging from the recent constitutional preparations to preparations related with a higher judicial body.

In a sense, this necessity is related with the repair of the damages caused by this communitarian structure.

The repair implies the production and activation of principles, which will make the new merit and justice-based legitimacy possible,
