Sticky politics...

Excessive politics will eradicate the political memory. The moment-indexed political perception produces sovereignty. 2006 and 2007 were critical years; they were the years of adamant, clear discoveries, incidents and fixations. Today, they are being re-discussed with comebacks and exculpations, in fact, they are being re-written.

During those years, Turkey had witnessed three fatal phenomena.

The murder of Priest Santaro, the Hrant Dink assassination, the savage slaughter of three Christians in Malatya…

These were phenomena that had common points.

In these incidents, there were no acquaintances, relations or hostility between the victims and perpetrators…

These murders were conducted because of the identities and opinions of the victims…

Each of the murders had been conducted by “children” or “men” between 16 and 20 years old, who had come out from the streets, and most possibly had been inseminated to act in this direction…

The one who shot the Priest was a 16-year-old boy. He had been sentenced. He implied that he had been motivated, as for the question “By who?” is still a mystery…

The first level collimators of the suspect, who is under 18 years old and had shot Dink, is known to us; however, the path that leads to the secondary and even deeper levels had been blocked…

As for the “motivations” of some of the perpetrators, who had caused the Malatya massacre, there were some suspicions that the relations they had built with some people in the brigade, where they had done their military duties, might be indicative. Then some doubts had formed against the doubters, and the case had been hung in the air…

These murders are the political murders of a dirty tissue in Turkey, and in each of them, the hints are extending to the “deepness of the public area”…

However, none of these cases had been handled within the frame of the juridical and political importance they deserve… Still they are not being handled: they can be handled…

There are various reasons for this…

The first reason is; the attitudes of the public servants, who are acting with reflex of protecting themselves, and the state mentality that makes this attitude possible…

As for the second reason; it is the mentality of the Turkish jurisdiction members and their behaviors that are far away from the spirit of the freedom notion…

For example, in this country, by activating all his political dictums, a judge can acknowledge an incident that had happened in the past being described in a way he doesn’t like as an “insult against Turkishness”.

In the German foundations case, a prosecutor managed to turn a book, which had been written against these foundations and is the expression of an excessive political opinion, into a bill of indictment line by line.

Doubt, fear, protection reflex, etc. …

As a matter of fact, the missionary issue was at the center of all the murders. During the beginning of the 2000s, while the EU winds were blowing, the missionary activities, which Ecevit kept on saying and had entered discussions in MGK (National Security Council), and the precautions (some of them had even been extended to the Ergenekon case defendants) against these activities were between the deep collimators of the political life.

The objective was to feed nationalism in order to prevent negotiations with the EU, propounding missionary claims in that direction, and to bring the waves, which had been fed by Christian murders and is in the communal reaction mood, to a level enough to overthrow the political rulership. Also, it was to make way for the neo-nationalist wave, which is formed of the meeting of the secularistic sensitivity and nationalism sensitivity.

Then the period had changed.

This time, the ex-President of the General Staff, İlker Başbuğ was implying that the Christian murders and Hrant Dink’s assassination had been done in order to liquidate the army by laying the blame on them, and to make the cases like Ergenekon and Balyoz possible. He was also putting the people, who had opened and implemented the first cases, into the target.

Where are we today?

Nowhere….

Today, the sequence of polarization, acquittal and accusation, which belongs to the moment now, is what administers the perceptions and surrounds the mentalities.

Despite everything, when you look back on the incidents in question, you will see that they had been carried out by the deep structures of the dominant system. It is clear that the objective was to sabotage the change and the actors that carry this change in that period.

Today, the issue is the deficiency of an attitude, or will power, which will reveal these by being purified from the current politics.

This deficiency is surrounding every level, from the bottom-up, and top to bottom.
