Welcome to 2015…

We have left a tense and difficult year behind us.

Without a doubt, what had factually characterized 2014 were the Presidential election, December 17 – 25 2013 incidents and the great fracturing experienced in the Resolution Process at the beginning of October.

Aside from that, we should acknowledge that all the effects of the new politicization wave and great disengagement had become evident in 2014. These arose in 2013 after the Arab Spring changed its direction, continued with the breaches caused by Turkey’s Egypt and Syria policies in the existent domestic and foreign political alliances and reached a climax with the Gezi incidents,.

While AK Party drifted away from the Gülen-led group, their alliance or cooperation with the liberal segment had completely come to an end.

2014 paved the way for the government to go rigid in their expressions and go over the limit in the fight against the Gülen-led group from time to time. And as for the opposing party, they became “militants” with the authoritarianism emphasis, which reduces the situation and some of Erdoğan’s statements on the Turkish political system and some corruption files to the Turkish economic system.

Within this frame, a serious polarization arose.

Under these conditions, an indirect alliance between the Gülen-led group and the left-wing liberal segment, or at least a close contact, had been formed.

A common sensitivity between the military and government had been formed against the Gülen-led group.

Also, despite all the conflicts between the Kurdish movement and the government, an indirect cooperation, which is indexed to the Resolution Process and distanced to the Gülen-led group, had been shaped.

We had experienced a year, where the democratic requests and anti-democratic situations coincided, a Jacobean tension arose between the government and the opposing party, and the judiciary had been pushed into chaos with the “cleaning” cases over the political files.

2015 starts under the shadow of all these events.

It’s necessary to consider these four new factors in the New Year.

The first one of those factors is the domestic and foreign hurricanes that will be cast by 1915, in other words, the Centenary of the Genocide.

As for the second one, it is the indicative elections in June. It will be one of the most crucial moments to see whether AK Party can reach a constitutional majority and thus pass to the “Presidential government” system.

The third one is the direction of the Resolution Process. Turkey’s stability and the stave of the democracy will be related with the progress of this process from many aspects.

As for the fourth and the last one, it is the legality and extent issue in the fight against the Gülen-led group. The absolute results of cases like Balyoz, Ergenekon and ODA TV will be revealed and new debates and moves in this matter will be inevitable.

It appears to be like this…

We hope that we’ll experience a positive year….
