Wiretapping Cevat Öneş…

Let’s start by recalling yesterday for the people who haven’t read yesterday’s article.

The former Undersecretary of MIT (National Intelligence Agency), Cevat Öneş, had been included in the infamous wiretapping operation, which is thought to be based on the Gülen-led group, and since 2011, he was being wiretapped for 18 months with a judicial decision. When all this was revealed, the judge, who hunted down the wiretappings which had been adapted to the procedures, had called Cevat Öneş in and asked him whether he wanted to file a complaint or not. Thus, Öneş decided to file a complaint. However, by referring to the preliminary examinations of the civil inspectors and Security General Directorate, the prosecution office had decided that Öneş had been wiretapped due to valid and necessary reasons. This valid reason is the assumption that Öneş had participated in some non-government organization meetings and operated within PKK after that….

The critical point is:

“Öneş had been wiretapped for 18 months. When? During the days, when the Oslo arguments were ongoing, the Gülen-led group was putting pressure on MIT and the 7 February 2012 operation was ongoing…. It’s clear that in order to connect a retired deputy undersecretary, who had poked his nose into the peace tasks, and to gather information, Öneş’s calls had been recorded for 18 months. This is his opinion as well…”

And a small reminder,

In those days, the claim that Öneş had operated within KCK had been turned into news in the Bugün Newspaper, which is the prominent voice of the Gülen-led group. Of course, it’s completely up to you to decide whether there is a relation between the wiretapping and this decision. However, while making the recent discussions about the freedom of press (despite the wrongness of the operation that was conducted against it), it is important not to forget about the organic relations aspect for Zaman  Newspaper, Bugün Newspaper and the likes, which had been declared as the purest dissident press representatives in the country and abroad.

Now, it’s Cevat Öneş’s time to speak:

“Since I could foresee the dangers that could be created by the PKK reality, which had been revealed by the deadlock of the Kurdish issue, and the possible risks, which are also related with these topics, after my retirement (March 2005) I felt the need to share my thoughts via the press, and decided that this was an imperative responsibility.

I’ve tried to explain, by systemizing my thoughts, that the multidimensional problem, which has historic, socio-political, psychological, economic, diplomatic, strategic and security aspects that are all important, can be solved by the democratic mentality, system and institutional re-structuring, which had been shaped by universal values. In my book entitled, “Turkey Axis”, which had been released in November 2010, some of my articles had been presented to the reader as a whole.

In order to make objective observations, I had also participated in some open meetings, like Peace Parliament, Congress of Democratic Community and Peace for Resolution.

On November 18, 2014, I’ve learned about the wiretapping, which had been conducted 6 times in 3 month intervals since March 7, 2011, under the order of Ankara High Criminal Court and the request of the Department of Intelligence of the Security General Directorate, from the Ankara Prosecution Office. In “Bugün” and some newspapers that are publishing in Kurdish, it’s highly possible that the news, which had been made by correlating with the KCK, was being published in relation with the control mechanism that is in question.

Within the frame of organized activities, which are conducted in order to prevent democratic and transparent studies that might enhance the Resolution Process for Peace, it’s understood that I had been included in the targets. Despite the transparency of my over-40-year career, my being taken under control by the request of the Security General Directorate, which had been accepted by the judicial organ, is an incident that cannot be encountered in any lawful state.

The Ankara Prosecution Office, which is investigating the incident in conjunction with the claims of the parallel organization, had reached the decision of not to prosecute the suspects, by basing the demands of the suspects, who had requested myself to be taken under control, on a realistic reason, and because there had been no request for investigation about myself. This, in itself, points at the continuity problem in the mentality of the civil rights law.

This method, which was applied before even asking or informing a conscientious bureaucrat whose life is transparent, naturally attracts attention by being one of the examples of the deep weaknesses in the judgment-administration and politics axis.

More than the need to continually pursue the committed crimes in the procedure we are experiencing, our primary issue should be to urgently create the conditions for the solutions to the basic circumstances that produce these issues. Every step, which enhances the unity and cooperation of the democratic powers, is crucial for our community….”

The mentality and political disgrace is on one side, while the tricky business is on the other…
