This is a breaking point...

Lately, I have been paying close attention to the speeches of Prime Minister Davutoğlu and undoubtedly to HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, two leaders whose speeches are of much importance these days...

Because, he, himself does not just represent an idea deriving from social identities, but it is a wide-spread perception that he represents; the PKK which systematically attacks our security forces with heavy weaponry, its 'urban' extension the KCK, its armed extension in Syria the YPG, and the “İmralı” who is speculated to be effective on the Kurdish armed movement...

At one stage, Selahattin Demirtaş had created a unifying effect on many leftist voters including some social democrats. The number of people who said, “If he took the reins at CHP, the CHP votes wouldn't fall below 40 percent” was not low at all. Those who got their hopes up high believing this was “Turkey's party” were suddenly startled with his call that poured the PKK and the KCK to the streets... On the other hand, Demirtaş, acting as if the Turkish Armed Forces where in the same equation as the PKK, saying, “Everyone should point their guns down” and then changing his speech to “The PKK should immediately put down its weapons because it creates a stonewall in front of the political struggle” and many other statements on the same lines have also been rather confusing... This has triggered a confidence crisis for those who have supposedly given him “entrusted” votes...

Westerners, social and medical scientists use the term “ambivalent”. The word has meanings like; having mixed feelings or contradictory ideas about someone or something. Seen as a credible news source by western media, the “Fırat News Agency”, supposedly the formal news source of the Kurdish Political Movement, was alleged to have published Demirtaş's words that were petrifying (a refutation was not made by 5p.m. on the Monday that this article was published).

Selahattin Demirtaş's statements were about “self-governance” in 16 different places (see T24 news portal), in other words; his words were on local authorities who declared independence... What petrified me was how a parliamentarian, a political authority, could give the green light to “anti-government”action. This is a very important breaking point...

Before we touch upon Demirtaş's statements, let's take a look at the development of the event: The heading and the summary of the news story on T24 is as follows (those in brackets are my thoughts): “With the declaration of independence in Hakkari, Batman, Edremit and İpekyolu in Van, and Silvan and Sur towns of Diyarbakır, the number of regions who have proclaimed their independence has reached 16.

“Şırnak People's Assembly (Please research the notion and you will be left speechless) announced that they proclaimed their independence in Silopi on August 10. The KCK made a statement on August 12, 2015, announcing that Cizre and Nusaybin, too, had declared their independence. Yüksekova of Hakkari, Bulanık of Muş, Doğubeyazıt of Ağrı, Hizan of Bitlis, and Gülsuyu and Gazi neighborhoods in Istanbul apparently announced their declaration of independence upon the decisions of the 'people's assemblies(!).'”

The statements of those proclaiming their self-governance are irrational:

·

“We do not deny the government, but the institutions do not have any legality.”

·

“All government institutions have lost their legitimacy before us. Therefore, no one appointed by the government can manage us. From this point on based on our declared independence, we will establish our life on democratic grounds. And from now on we will always defend our self-defense against all attacks.”

·

“We have not declared a canton, but it may become necessary.”

· “The People's Assembly of Silopi, Cizre, Nusaybin and Şırnak have announced that they will not recognize government institutions, that they will do things themselves and that they will establish their self-governances. If in any way their self-governances are attacked, they will defend themselves.”

·

“We do not recognize a government, its institutions, its laws and system if it does not recognize the Kurdish Independence Movement and the legality of the community.”

·

"We will engage in self-defense against the tormenter, denialist and fascistic government. And on this, we will base our independent lives.”

·

"We do not have to impose anything that comes from the center (Ankara) which is incompatible with the community. We do not want to be managed by governors and district governors appointed by the government. We, as the Kurdish community want to be governed with democratic and legal methods that we choose ourselves. Therefore, we want to govern ourselves and our cities with our own self-governance.”

Now let us talk about the most calamitous part. Please read the lines below, keeping in mind that we are talking about a party in the Turkish National Assembly:

“A press statement was made in front of the DBP building with the participation of the Hakkari Municipality co-heads Dilek Hatipoğlu and Nurullah Çiftçi, HDP Hakkari City co-heads Zeynep Besi Dara and Rahmi Temel, the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Hakkari City co-heads Musa Çiftçi and Emine Berivan Akboğa, Perihan Kahraman, the Hakkari City Assembly Spokesperson, and about 200 party members.”

DBP Hakkari Center Town co-head İbrahim Çiftçi read the text of the press statement and announced that they declared their self-governance as the Hakkari Democratic City Assembly.

Now let us take a look at Selahattin Demirtaş's statements:

The explanation the Fırat News Agency made stated that the Co-President of HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş, claimed their decision on self-governance was legitimate, that this was the political will of the people and they respected this decision.

There is an economic and financial crisis in the world. Our political arena is congested. And look above and see all that has been happening….
