New trade and energy routes

Trade and energy routes are being redrawn around the world.

We are entering a new era where trade and energy routes, previously determined by developed Western countries, are now being reshaped by countries with rich energy resources and the largest economies both economically and in terms of population. Concrete steps are being taken for this transition.

NEW TRADE ROUTES

As known, the east-west trade shaping land and sea Silk Road project initiated by China will bring about significant changes in trade.

With this project, China aims to reach many markets of countries in a short time to become the largest GDP in the world. However, the expectation that the project's sea and land connections will cover many countries, China's central position, and the anticipation that Western countries cannot compete with China, especially the United States, are the biggest obstacles to the implementation of this project.

On the other hand, Russia's desired north-south route, strained relations with the West, and the new trade route reaching from Russia to India are emerging as serious steps that will change the trade balance.

These projects planned and developed by China and Russia aim to change the existing economic order and established trade balances in parallel with the changing power balance in economies and have a desire to center many developing economies.

NEW ENERGY ROUTES

This change in demand is also evident in energy.

The amount of reserves, especially natural gas, that Russia has in energy, the high energy dependence of Western countries on Russia, and the desire to determine new routes in energy are expected to bring about significant changes in energy.

On one hand, Russia has the motivation to reach Western countries via Türkiye and to reach developing countries, especially China and India, in the east, and thus to maintain its economic power through energy trade.

This desire for change in energy will bring about new cooperation among countries with energy resources and will significantly contribute to countries like Türkiye, which have the potential to be central in energy.

TRADE AND ENERGY ROUTES WILL BRING ABOUT NEW FORMATIONS

This change and transformation in trade and energy are expected to necessitate the revision of existing collaborations, formations, institutions, and perhaps even the establishment of new institutions.
