Turkey managed to turn its geopolitical position, which it had not been able to use for years, into an advantage by trusting its recent political and economic stability and reached the level of being a strong variable of the regional energy equation.

Actually this process started with the Nabucco project. The Nabucco project did not come to an end, but it has been a driving force to replace Turkey in the center of the other energy projects.

Then the first sign showing that Turkey would not be out of the energy equation came with the TANAP (Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline) project.

With TANAP, the transition project of the natural gas from Azerbaijan to Turkey and on to the EU countries, energy has been one of the top economic items on the agenda.

Despite all the attempts to hinder the project, the determination and dedication regarding TANAP has increased Turkey's regional power in the energy field, and this process has been finalized by laying the foundation of TANAP in 2015.

Meanwhile, carrying oil from the Northern Iraqi Kurdish region via Turkey to international markets, and then with the Turkish Stream coming up on the agenda, it showed the indispensability of Turkey in regional energy.

Therefore, we can say that Turkey has been a key player in the search for new destinations and markets of countries supplying and demanding energy.

An energy scenario without Turkey in the region cannot be written.

After the tension with Russia, without losing time in Turkey's search for alternatives in energy, pacing up the search for the alternative country is the declaration of not feeling an obligation in energy policies as it had in the past.

Now there is an effort to form a new energy equation in the Eastern Mediterranean and again Turkey is indispensable in this equation.

The reason Israel is seeking reconciliation with Turkey is the fact that without Turkey, it is impossible to transfer the natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean to EU countries.

The options without Turkey come with economically high costs and bring distrust and risk.

It also needs to be known that the energy reserve in the Eastern Mediterranean does not belong to Israel alone, but also Palestine.

That is why in the Mavi Marmara raid, Turkey also laid down the condition to lift the blockade on Gaza in addition to an apology and indemnity from Israel.

Lifting the blockade means Palestine's being able to use its right in the continental shelf and drill the natural gas reserves in the offshore of Gaza.

For me, this is the most important point.

As is known, at the end of the 1990s a sizable natural gas reserve was found in Gaza.

The reason for Israel's inhumane practices against Palestine is the threat Palestine's economic potential poses to Israel, and the natural gas resources in Palestine constituting a risk for Israel.

Thus, Israel, which wants to use the energy in the Eastern Mediterranean, besides Turkey's indispensability, is aware of Turkey's defending the economic and political rights of Gaza.

It also realizes that it cannot solve the energy equation in the Eastern Mediterranean through conflict with Turkey. This is the real reason it seeks reconciliation with Turkey.

This situation proved that even Israel could not set a game without Turkey while setting the energy equation in the region.

Turkey, which from a country that accepted energy dependency as its fate for years, turned into a global energy hub, should make good use of the political stability wind and continue to strengthen its role in the energy field.

Meanwhile, the dedicated efforts of IHH (Humanitarian Relief Foundation) and Bülent Yıldırım have made a great contribution, to mention explicitly the rightfulness of Turkey and Israel's knocking at Turkey's door on the energy issue.
