What should Turkey's message to the G-20 be?

Having officially taken over the G-20 term presidency in 2015, Turkey will host the G-20 Leaders' Summit in Antalya on 15-16 November 2015.

Assuming the presidency of the G-20, which represents 80 percent of world trade, 90 percent of the world economy and two-thirds of the world's population for the first time in its history, the country would like to hand over the term presidency by sending important messages in Antalya.

This summit has particular importance for Turkey, which has achieved success throughout the year in the outreach groups of the G-20 such as L-20 (Labor), B-20 (Business), Y-20 (Young People), T-20 (Think-tanks and academia), C-20 (Civil Society) and W-20 (Business Women) formed by Turkey for the first time.

Hosting such a big organization sends the message of a country with the support of a powerful nation after the November 1 elections. The meaning that will be attached to this message will be quite different.

The G-20 that the 19 economies of the world and the EU formed is not a platform on which only the global economy will be discussed. At the same time, it is an important place where Turkey will show a portrait of a country without political uncertainty, which is trustworthy and continues its march.

The meaning of Turkey's presence in G-20

In the global economy the developing countries did not have much to say till the economic crisis in 2008. The balances began to change in favor of the developing countries after 2008.

Just for this reason, Turkey and the developing countries should take part in the international institutions and organizations more strongly.

It is obvious that the global issues cannot be solved only in accordance with the decisions made by the developed countries, and the weight of the developing countries has been increasing steadily in the global system.

Therefore, the strengthening position of developing countries in the global economy is making the G-20 presidency of Turkey more concrete.

Turkey's G-20 term presidency for the G-20 as a developing country and its economic performance has been a source of motivation for developing countries, and Turkey has been a role model taken as an example.

That is why the expectations of the underdeveloped countries from the G-20 term president, Turkey, are quite high. Turkey's leadership in the G-20 is equated to voicing the problems of underdeveloped countries and being the voice of many poor countries.

There is a geography of poverty where the developed countries close their eyes and ignore many vital problems from delivering energy to Africa, especially the deprivation of water and food.

But ignoring the problem is not the solution. The European countries knocking at Turkey's door today because of the Syrian refugees ignored the Syrian problem for a long time.

Turkey has an opportunity to tell its economic story

Turkey's being the G-20 term president in a sense means acknowledgement of its economic success, which started after 2002 and was managed well in spite of the global economic crisis in 2008.

In a sense the G-20 Presidency is crowning the performance after 2002.

On the other hand, even if the economic story of Turkey has started to be written in 2002, in the period from 2015 to 2019 a new economic story will begin.

Therefore the G-20 Summit gives a very good opportunity to Turkey to tell the reforms in the agenda in this period and the new economic story.

Instead of introducing Turkey and telling about the new economic agenda of Turkey by going to the countries one by one, it is an important advantage that the entire world will come to it and listen to Turkey in its home.

Turkey is on its way to becoming a central country in the regional energy. With theG-20, it will have declared that it is a center of political and economic stability.
