And Alevism and sectarianism and violence

“Terror's square is Okmeydan! Nurtepe! The Gazi neighborhood. The Gülsuyu neighborhood, 1 Mayis neighborhood.” These messages were spread on social media the day of the DHKP-C protests. There were a lot of similar messages. The accounts that spread these messages were all “anonymous” and it was the “naked” truth of what instigated sectarianism. Judgement about Alevism being identical to terror has increased. Whether it is from the “Alevi card” to the European countries encouragement for the Alevi community to protest. What is even more dramatic is the statement “DHKP-C is an Alevi organization”. There is also this proposal: “Why was everyone who died during Gezi Alevi? Because they were the ones who started this rebellion”. These are sentences that are locked in our minds. There is a logic where the question's answer is carried inside! These template statements suddenly erase our thinking abilities.



These simple suggestions are addressing the crowding masses. No one person is receiving this with criticism and barricade. That is because with a simple sentence the result is easily reached. In this situation, the ones who want social unity are actually, paradoxically paving the way for Turkey's tensions to raise; thus, the breaking of unity. The hidden tone of Alevis being put in line are “provoking the Alevis and causing them to be ill-treated.” This is because Turkey's societal makeup is built from a variety of fault lines. This sociological fault in our societal history has been activated in various times. We have seen this in the Çorum, Maraş and Sivas incidents. There was a conflict between the Alevis and the Sunnis. At the least, there were masses that were being pushed to attack the Alevis and later on a joint Alevism memory was composed. The motto that “The Sunnis slaughtered the Alevis” was inserted into the minds, like the famous narrator Mustafa Kutlu said “like a nail”. It is because of this that today during every Alevi workshop, conference and symposium these historical events are listed one by one.



There would be no losers or winners if Alevism is radicalized. This is the perception that was made with the murder of Uğur Mumcu. This perception is very alive, like a picture in our generation's minds. The soldiers, leftists, Alevis and secularists were shouting the slogan “Down with Sharia” in the Kizilay Square. After this picture a large break up occurred in Turkey again. It turned the Secularists, Alevis and the leftists into one block with the “fear of Sharia”. The coups and practices of Feb. 28 and the likes of the Republic meetings were this block's actions. The Kemalists, who were actually the ones most against sectarianism (because Kemalism defends the understanding of religion over sects), activated the rivalry in sects in sociological dynamics.



Is DHKP-C an Alevi organization? Are they instigating by mobilizing the Alevis? It is very wrong to compare this terror organization that martyred Mehmet Selim Kiraz (May god have mercy on him) to Alevism. This has neither a factual nor strategic meaning. This is because DHKP-C was not established as an Alevi organization. It was not formed in order to defend the rights of Alevis and represent them. The historical murders were based on a leftist revolution. They want to form a communist state with revolution and violence. DHKP-C leader Dursun Karataş was from my hometown Elazığ. As a matter of fact, his village was connected to mine. When he died, he was buried over there. The village made up of Sunni, Hanafi and Kurds, was even named Kurdi Mirig. His father wore a shalwar and his mother wore a headscarf. When we look at the murders that the DHKP-C committed, we see that their goal is for a leftist and communist revolution. They are a vendor organization and the biggest evidence for this is the assassination of Sabanci. Today the outcome can be seen that it is being directed toward being a vendor to instigate our Alevi citizens. This is why special attention is being paid to the incidents Alevi names, Alevi neighborhoods etc.



With its actions this is becoming evident.



Even after all of this, the judgments that “DHKP-C is an Alevi organization” will oppositely helping the fanaticism of sectarianism. This is because this judgement makes all of Alevism equal terror and rebellion. This invites the judgement in the eyes of the “larger society” that the Alevis worked together with terrorists, they established the terror organization that did the assassinations and again they are rebellious. All of our Alevi countrymen are seen as equals in the eyes of Sunnis. This makes it possible for the Sunnis to feel more Sunni and the Alevis feel more Alevi. Now we can begin to express everything with the Sunnism and Alevism duality. We take guard accordingly. Sectarianism will rise from the grave again.



This perception production is inciting movement in the fault lines of the sectarian rivalry. It will activate them. Sectarianism could explode again in the style of archaic primitiveness with clan irritably (if we read it with the sociology of Ibni Haldun). This is what is wanted. The Middle East is the only soil that this isn't in, the only geography is Anatolia. They want this to be so in this geography. Who wants this? Everyone who is encouraging this: All minds, all powers and all people. There is no need for a conspiracy theory, and there is no need to search for special powers. Everything is quite clear. DHKP-C is acting to become the leader of this. They are treading water around Berkin Elvan. That is why they chose an Islamic divinity high school graduate and a religious prosecutor as a target. This is why they want to make Okmeydan a station for rebellion. They are calling for the Sunnis and Alevis to think as opposition. So Sunnis feel more Sunni and Alevis feel more Alevi. We, as Anatolia's intelligentsia, must stay far away from the blinding that is caused from our expectations of ideology and politics. This is because sectarianism is about to turn into a lasting issue for all of us. It is one blink away that our country can go up in flames. So because of this, we must stay far away from putting Alevism together with rebellion, terror and assassination. We must produce a clear belief and application on the topic of terror. The opposition should be more sensitive to this issue, because if they want to move the Alevis against the government that is representing them and that they are representing, their priority becomes opposing this and representing justice.
