Early elections thwarted those ‘concerned’ at home and abroad

Ever since Turkey approved the switch to the presidential system, I advocated having snap elections. Because Turkey had decided on a big change. The people had approved the pursuit to switch to a brand new system on April 16, 2017. They provided very effective support to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s struggle to reform Turkey. As a matter of fact, the Justice and Development (AK) Party, which also gained the support of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), had become much stronger in this regard. There was benefit in this decision going on to the application process at once. According to those resisting this, producing controversy against it and pursuing blockages, Turkey’s regime was being changed. According to these pro-tutelage approaches, it did not matter that the people said yes, because the people are ignorant.

Global dominant powers have also resorted to all sorts of schemes, ever since the Arab Spring, to distance Erdoğan and the AK Party from power. Turkey was left face to face again with the siege of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ). The Western alliance was accusing Erdoğan of being Islamist and making the argument that he pushed Turkey away from the West, and is continuing to do so. The U.S.’s statement, “We are concerned,” in relation to the decision to hold a snap election, clearly reveals this. Democracy was destroyed in Egypt; Mohamed Morsi, who was elected through democratic means, was imprisoned. Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi came to power through a coup. The U.S. applauded this. In the Gulf, Mohammed bin Salman imprisoned many men of faith and science who were in opposition to him. He had people from business circled arrested. Despite this, the prince is revered and presented as the leader of the Arab world.

Turkey has made a decision via legitimate means to hold an election and all opposition parties approved it. This decision also passed through Parliament. Everything happened within the scope of democracy. Yet, the U.S. is “concerned,” because it does not care about democracy. For the U.S., Turkey’s process of independence with Erdoğan and becoming a state that freely makes decisions, is dangerous. Turkey is shaking off its dependency on the U.S. and becoming a country that decides with its own will. It is now escaping the “divided democracy” practice and achieving a more effective bureaucracy and state system. What does Turkey want to do with the presidential system and why does the switch to this system concern the U.S. so much? Why does the U.S. care so much about a decision we made, which are preparing to implement, in relation to our own system. I guess the U.S. thinks Turkey is still a country that is bound to it. Yet, so much has happened since then. Neither FETÖ was able to prevent this, nor was the PKK. Turkey also largely destroyed these two terror blockages.

One other important aspect of snap election is concerning internal disputes. These disputes start, concretely, with the Gezi Park events. However, it is deeper than that. Those who are concerned on the inside, who emerged against the system change… These people, who are internally concerned, have been reacting against the AK Party’s reform politics from the beginning. Because their class structures and ideologies integrated with the old system. The Republican People’s Party (CHP) is the party of this old system. Regardless of which party comes, this system set by the CHP remains like a fortress. The secular elites gathered around the CHP are its magicians. They protect the dominant position of their presence by constantly saying, “The regime is in danger,” “We are losing laicism,” “Shariah is coming.” The switch to the presidential system is going to radically change their century-old historic position of dominance. Their ideology and system understanding is no longer going to be associated with the state. The ideologies and institutional practices they imposed on the people are going to change.

As the switch to the presidential system comes into practice, both those concerned at home and abroad are starting to become active. MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli noticed this activity. He shared this with President Erdoğan. The “disorders” created by the two concerns have been decided to be eliminated with the decision to hold snap elections. The likely destructive operations that those “concerned” will produce through controversies have been overcome.
