Neither Insult nor Terror

Those remaining at Charlie Hebdo magazine identify themselves as Atheist, secular and French. This is the left-wing Atheism that appears in the soul of French secularism. This French-souled secularism, before anything else, originates from the historic biography of the conflict between the church and government. In other words, the product of a bloody experience. Because of this, it’s cynical against religion. The attitude that arises from this, always humiliates, belittles and controls religion and sees it as the mother of all evil. French secularism refers to itself as civilization, and religion as barbarism. This secularism carries within a deep French nationalism and positivism; thus, it highly rates science and replaces religions with secularism, and presents it as a life style and a secular sanctity. This way, secularism turns into an ideology far exceeding a political formulation and a religious hostile tool.

This cynicism of the French secularism is being reflected effectively by Charlie Hebdo. The terminal point of anarchism embodies itself with insult. Secularism turns into a single divine, and actualizes this with a civilization mission. They take on a Secular Isovist attitude. Thus, French secularism regards exporting itself a matter of humanity, and falls into the arrogance of civilizing the world with this idealism. As a matter of fact, they will also become happy when the Cumhuriyet newspaper represents Charlie Hebdo. Moreover, they will also say that the secularism in Turkey is under danger. The white, left wing, atheist and French secularism will steer towards cooperation with the White Turks and left wing seculars in Turkey. They are acting as though they worry over saving the France within Turkey. Because, the first non-western place of secularism are the lands of this country. When being questioned here, they feel the disappointment for the end of the magic. However, with the French spirit, the secularism had brought blood, tears, oppression and authoritativeness to these lands. It suggested for us to become white Western people by changing completely – down to our skin. Some of our Westerner friends were happy with this. Their belief in being civilized people had deepened after their observations of us.

Secularism, which had been produced against religion, was the only divine. All the others could be insulted. Of course, there was also a French Republic. It was also divine and couldn’t be insulted. However, as Brits best presented (in Charles Dickens’ Tale of Two Cities), the republic, following the French invasion had been born from blood. There were economically and technologically advanced methods to slaughter people. This was the guillotine. Won’t we be regarded as insulting the secular divines if we say, “The French Republic is a sordid regime that originated from bloodshed”? However, our belief system says, “Don’t insult them”. We should also act appropriately to this principle. We cannot form a relation with France over a narrow secularism, Algeria massacres or the regime style, which had been formed with revolution. We are forming a relation of a different and multidimensional idea system with France. For example, we are being inspired by philosophers like M. Fuacolt, A. Touraine and Boudrillard.

We are open to criticism towards what we hold divine. Moreover, we are even tolerant to refutations. We will be in intellectual and scientific rivalry with them. However, humiliating what we hold as holy is equal to humiliating us. The humiliation of an asset, upon which one formed his ego and identifies with, is the humiliation towards that person, and the damaging of that person’s ego. His Holiness Muhammad is the origin of our self. He is the mirror of our personality. We watch ourselves as we look at him. We see ourselves in him. Thus, any foul play against him is done against us (Muslims). Thus, there is not a chance for us to identify ourselves with them. Thus, we are not “Charlie Hebdo”. We won’t insult others or their divines. For us, the prophets are the ones that enlightened us and humanity for our sake. They are the light bearers in the darkness. There had always been some that turned this lightness into darkness with their ignorance. They still exist, and Charlie Hebdo is one of them.

We are neither Charlie Hebdo, nor Al-Qaeda. One represents profanity, while the other represents terror. Both of them are the products of grudge and inattention. Similar to how we are not supporters of Al-Qaeda and ISIL, we are not supporters of Charlie Hebdo. Al-Qaeda is also the art of abnormality. They slaughter people in the name of God. Besides, they are not only attacking Western forces, intruders or the ones that cooperate with hegemony. They also attack Muslims, and they attempt to loot them and pillage them. They act barbarically to the Muslims that don’t side with them, and declare them as heretics. Thus, as much as the Western world system is the source of all the terroristic acts in the Muslim world, it’s also caused by the relations between Muslims. There are problematic relations between the Muslims in the Islamic lands, as much as the problematic relations between the West and Islamic communities. Harici-Vehhabi movements have serious problems because of their perception of religion and life-styles. Thus, Muslims are required to question the violent structures within themselves as much as questioning the existence of the Western system.

They have to question the groups, which interpret Sharia with their narrow tribal, cabal and clique understanding and stir things up, and their perceptions of religion. Because, these violent acts are only leaving behind exploded bombs, slaughtered Muslim masses, ruined cities, immigrant groups that are exiled from their houses and lands, etc. Tearful moms, orphaned kids, widowed women, the ones who fell to the streets as beggars… We are returning to communities that are swaying within a great communal laceration.

Either Charlie Hebdo, or Al- Qaida or ISIL! Here is the world, which is re-identified as black and white. Both evils are laid before us as good and bad. Turkey carries a third option within itself. Other than the insult and terror options, it puts forth Muslimism that lives together with democracy. It inspires a new path in the Islamic world that lives the regency and insurrection for centuries. It carries within the potential of Muslimism that stays away from violence and oppression strategies. The AK Party rulership is a milestone at this point. This is the representation of Muslimism that stays away from every kind of violence and has been elected. This is not only a resolution for Turkey, but also for the Islamic world. Thus, Islamic movements regarded AK Party rulership as a hope, light and future. They regarded AK Party like the experience of living in peace with democracy. Thus, by forming parties and conducting elections, they have steered towards the legitimate demands of Islam. However, following the interventions applied to the Arab Spring, these hopes and visualizations left their place to violence and riots. The increase in violent movements and finding supporters and spreading after the Arab Spring shouldn’t be a coincidence. Now, the Western system is painfully feeling that the terror problem in the Islamic communities does not only interest Muslims. In the global world, the Islam matter turns into everyone’s problem. Thus, it’s everyone’s duty to support democracy against the coup mindset people (without making the secular and Islamist-religionist discrimination).
