The MHP and HDP are dividing the people

The Kurdish issue is a nation issue. It cannot be solved only with the domination of Turkism or Kurdism alone. The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) is pursuing the first and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) the latter. There is a third understanding advocated by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party). And that is to include both Turks and Kurds in the same entity. This has been in practice for a thousand years already. An issue that has been in a deadlock for the past 100 years, but can only be overcome by becoming a nation. This is how AK Party views the issue, and this is how it has been struggling. The MHP on the other hand wants security-oriented policies, like applying a state of siege. They are offering to “turn the society into a closed society in trust of the military.” Neither making an expansion, reconciliation or democratization. As if these weren't previously tried out? The White Taurus had done exactly these during the 1990s state of emergency.

The real fact that bred terrorism and turned the HDP into a “Kurdish leadership” was the previously implemented martial law proposed by the MHP. Today they are choosing their terrorist recruits from among the children of those who suffered in the 1990s, having their houses being burned down, their fathers brutally bashed and mothers fiercely kicked.

The MHP is continuing its denial and rejection today. This is only provoking Turks further. It is insuring that Turks feel all the more Turkish, and all the more different from Kurds. It is also causing Kurds to feel more Kurdish and thus inciting them to label the Turks as the “other,” “different” and “outsider.”

Another understanding dividing the people is Kurdish nationalist socialism. That is to say, the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK), PKK, Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and the HDP. All these resemble the multifaced Greek Dragons. Words like weapons and bombs are uttered and these words are approved. They are accusing the AK Party of ending the reconciliation process. Moreover they are holding the party and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan responsible for the Ankara bombings. While PKK's imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan says “go to the last congress and declare that you have laied down arms,” HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş is turning purple, and the other is shouting “continue with the arms” from Qandil. While Erdoğan and the AK Party convince the Conservatives about the Kurdish question, they are continuing their state of denial. While Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu announces that assimilation, denial and rejection has come to an end, they are shouting non-conflict.

The HDP is leading Kurds to believe they are different and separate from the Turks, and are absolute and unique. This is causing them to perceive the world, individuality and politics through the window of Kurdishness. It is provoking Kurds through ethnicity. It is recommending a specific Kurdish identity separate from Turks. Thus, Turks are naturally becoming the other. The other, which is blocking Kurds from representing and expressing themselves. The HDP is trying to break off the Kurds from our national identity. To break them off and create an opponent to the nation.

Both the MHP and HDP are trying to disintegrate our nation through Kurdishness and Turkishness. They are shaking the thousand-year-old esprit de corps spirit. They are attacking the reconciliatory, pluralist and unity policies of the AK Party, which has been holding this spirit together and taking risks to do so. The HDP and MHP are turning into the same tool on the Kurdish issue. They are acting as a tool to break up the nation. They are rejecting the AK Party's unity understanding, which is inclusive of the Kurds. They are both opposing the reconciliation process. The MHP is uttering martial law and the HDP terrorism and war.

The MHP is colliding with the thousand-year-old Islamic mission understanding of the Turks. They are demeaning the Turks. They are showing Turks to Kurds as the “other”. The HDP is going against the thousand-year-old Islamic tradition practiced by Kurds. They are placing Turks as the “other.” Two different policies contradict brotherhood, politics, history and existence. However, history is calling upon Turks and Kurds to unite and become great once again. The national solidarity and brotherhood project of the AK Party is a search for this conscious.
