A New Generation and Davutoğlu

Osman Yüksel Serdengeçti was a contentious person, who had lived between 1917 – 1983,with whom I had the opportunity to meet and talk to, who was a bouncer like his surname, and was idyllic, self-sacrificing and the possessor of a supreme case. In between his busy work schedule, the book entitled "How did they ruin a generation" had been formed from his various articles and speeches. That book, which had been written in the 1960s, was talking about the fact that "the fifteen million youths", which had been produced in the ten years during the Republic period and especially on the wrong way after the First Parliament, were actually the ruined youths.

In the "The Universe that I"ve missed" titled article published at his Magazine, Serdengeçti was describing the youth he had missed as follows:

"I"m missing such a universe: where there will be youths, young lads, the ones that are overflowing and the ones who are chasing after a sacred case and whom believe in the Lord of the Universes, where they will leave their love for small waves, making jokes and pavements, where they will be lost in the big waves of the faith seas and the eternity and exist, where they will be judged with big cases, and fall in love with lofty passions, where the youth will stand uprightly and very robust like castles made out of faith and living fortresses, where no power can exceed this castle, where no one other than Allah – Nation – Motherland love will stay in their pure hearts.

"The youths, whose faces had gone pale, under-eyes had become purple, who are wobbly, crooked, and shaky and who are finished before starting and exhausted before ending… The youths, whose mouths are reeking of raki, feet are smelling of sweat, and whose underwear smell of dirt; such youths don''t exist in our universe!

"I see that a terrible destruction had happened!.. Congregations had been disintegrated, sanctuaries had been shut, all the almighty and lofty opinion owners had been slaughtered, and a millenary destiny had been trampled on!.. All the roads that lead to Allah had been blocked by evil forces and bad intentions. All the faith fronts had been silenced and the youths had been thrown in to a scary void!..

Some kill time at cafes, some see life in the bottle of raki, some drink his/her wealth at pubs and consume it by being overwhelmed, some are fond of cinema and theater!... Someone"s mind is standing up. Had taken a place in the mob. Their excitement and opinions are rolling into a ball, and being caught up in a net… Such a youth doesn"t exist in the universe I"ve missed…."

Also, our Akif had Asim. The father who had pulled Asim, who is thinking of reforming the congregation from top to bottom by actualizing a coup and is the representative of the young generation, to a corner and said;

"He tells him to establish a madrassah where religious and scientific information will be taught, and be busy with nurturing and raising the generation. He also wants a revolution, but this is not a revolution which can be done by overthrowing the government or by hanging people. This is a long-term revolution, which will integrate and unify information and morals, and will take twenty years to accomplish. Because of this, Asim will go to Europe and drink from the endless spring that leaks from the science realm, and will bring some back to the country."

Even though these youths, which these two thinkers longed for, and many more, had studied in other schools, they are still the brothers and siblings, who had been fed from the same source, of the Imam Hatip students, which I"ve told you in my two previous articles.

Ahmed Davudoglu (I intentionally wrote Davutoglu with a "d"), whom I had met years ago, is a bright representative of a "lucky generation", who also fulfills my deep longing and gives hope.

Present Turkey, where an Imam Hatip student is a President and Davudoglu is a Prime Minister, no matter what they believe or how they live, will pave the way for a new Turkey, in which none of our people, who are distant in international humane value, have to worry anymore.

While telling them god speed, I would like to wish that the ones, who are resisting to enter this door, find the right way.
