The Syrian opposition and the counter front

The West invented puppet-regimes - and shared Ottoman lands amongst themselves- within the borders drawn by the Sykes-Picot Agreement signed in 1916 and the San Remo Conference which took place four years after this. The U.S., which intervened in the conference, dictated its own interests and requests. I call this front the “counter front." The counter front does –and is doing- everything that it can to ensure that the order they set up in the Middle East is not obstructed.

These followers (exploiters) of democracy and human rights never paid attention to the violations of human rights and the lost democracy during the administration of the Assad dictators who ruled over Syria as father and son, because such dictators didn't really touch their oppressive interests, nor did they oppose their goals. Things changed with the Arab Spring and the Syrian revolution, and had these revolutions succeeded, the interests of the counter front would seriously be damaged and “holy" agreements would be put aside. They mobilized right away to choke the child of the revolution before he was born, and the movement continues.

Those who consistently criticize the movement of the oppressed and victimized people, - who seek justice and freedom- for being “smart alecks" cannot respond to this question: “Should this oppression, intrusion, and concealed exploitation continue forever and should the people submit, or what do you propose –in the long or short run- and which solution do you provide?"

I wrote these lines as an introduction to the piece below, which is my actual intention. My purpose is to draw attention to the wrongness of blanket evaluations made regarding the Syrian opposition and remind about the propaganda, brainwashing and perception management operations carried out by the West.

There are three main platforms of resistance in Syria:The Syria Islam Front, Syrian Islamic Liberation Front and the Free Syrian Army (FSA). The largest component of the Syrian Islam Front is Ahrar as-Sham Movement. This movement is the umbrella organization of the Syrian opposition forces and has also cooperated with the 'Conquest Army' which was recently formed.

The Ahrar as-Sham, which is also known as the Syrian Islamic Front, was a front which was established on December 21, 2012 with the unification of 11 brigades.

The Syrian Islam Front does not only have activities in military. At the same time, they carry out work in invitations, assistance and press spheres. They also provide justice, security and municipal services in regions freed from Assad's dictate.

The organization which follows the Ahl-al Sunna of the Salaf-I Saleheen opens Qur'an courses in the Deir ez-Zor region, carries out organizations by visiting schools in Aleppo, as well as cultural work, conferences, competitions and rewards students.

With the hope that this calls those who completely praise or defame the Syrian opposition to come to reason, I will convey a few parts that I consider to be important from an interview made with this organization's leader Sheikh Abu Jaber:

-The published stipulation had collected the resistance groups in Syria, which includes Ahrar as-Sham under a single umbrella and we actually continue to move in accordance with the common goal of toppling the Assad Regime with resistance groups in Syria.

-The conquest army is the name given to the committee which was formed to take Idlib back. This committee is similar to the committees which were previously formed with similar goals. This Committee (The Conquest Army) acts in line with the collective decisions to be taken following the accomplishment of its goals.

-There has been no disagreement between the Ahrar as-Sham and the provisional government. We think that the groups which conquered Idlib –and paid a price- should come to a collective decision regarding the entry of the government into Idlib.

-… We will never prevent those who come to provide assistance to our people neither in Idlib nor in another place which gained its independence. The administration of liberated Idlib or another city is a decision that will be made by the people. The people of the city have the most say in administering their own cities and providing services to the public, more than anyone else.

- Our relation with the Al-Nusra Front is similar to our relations with other groups. We participated in many operations with them. There were other military groups along with us. The al-Siyasa al-Shar'iyya (politics, method, mode, prioritized issues etc) between us and Al-Nusra may differ due to their relations and contacts with al-Qaida.

- We are of the opinion that the connection with al-Qaida harms our people in Syria. The Assad Regime uses this as an excuse to name our resistance as terror.

- We act in unison with the Free Syrian Army in terms of the goal to bring down the Assad regime.

- The National Coalition has been formed abroad and has established a government, but in my opinion they do not represent the people. Because our people did not elect them. A government has to apply to the people and be elected by the people in order to be considered as legitimate… Under these conditions, if there is no opportunity for the people to elect, we cannot call it a government. Now, each group –small or large- claims that there is a government. Do the claims of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIL make them a state just because they claim to be one?
