Resisting an operational invasion, defending Istanbul

November 1 is going to be a turning point in Turkey's political history. Similar statements are always made, I know, but I'm not talking about internal affairs or the elections. Because this breaking point will have a direct influence on the formation of the country's future.

We saw immediately after the June 7 elections that we either need to continue that great walk or turn into Syria. And on Nov. 2, we will be seeking the answer to this question. We are either going to lose our century -long great struggle or continue on the same path. Once we free ourselves of all our prejudices and assumptions before asking this question, we will understand very well what this means.

We seem to have no other option but these two.

An operational invasion against Turkey is on!

We are at a point in time when regional chaos is pushing our borders, entering certain provinces and starting an operational invasion and this invasion is receiving intense internal support. Returning to the days of divided power, the weakening of centralized power, the country's main sensitivity being pushed out of the center will leave Turkey without a backbone, rendering it completely defenseless.

Everybody can be sure of this.

The most vital matter for Turkey that requires priority is keeping the main backbone intact. Once this is ensured, it is possible to overcome any threat. If that backbone is weakened, we will have no choice but to turn to see Syria, Iraq, Ukraine or Egypt.

How many see that dire picture?

Accept it or not, in this sense, the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) is the backbone resonating in almost every segment in Turkey. It is the sole political movement that is able to reach every point of the country. Its political mind is much beyond that of its rivals and it seems difficult in the recent times for such an intellect and mind to gain prominence outside this staff.

The AK Party is an adhesive for our country in which the resolution has reached points we have never before witnessed. Regardless of your anger, hostility or criticisms, this is an unchanging reality.

Imagine politics in Turkey without the AK Party. Look at the state of those that exist. And when you look at them, don't look at politics alone. Look at it as Turkey; consider the past and future of the country, the shifts in power throughout the world, consider the reality that the disaster wreaking havoc in the region has reached our doorstep.

You will be overcome by great pessimism. If you are able to control your anger and daily reactions, if you are able to silence them even a little, if you can escape the chores that take your minds hostage, there will be nothing to prevent you from seeing that dire picture. I am talking about a sensitivity related to being a part of Turkey, not the AK Party.

Centralized power in Turkey has changed; get used to it

We have a burden that cannot be carried by divided powers. There are problems that cannot be handled by neighborhood politics. Turkey is now bigger than that which can be managed by the political mind and staff of 20 years ago. The Turkey issue is no longer the issue of deprivations and victimizations. It is an issue of power. There are issues related to the power struggles within itself, the geography and on a global scale. It is an issue of having a political vision that is much beyond the national-scale and the skills to compete in a clash of powers.

The centralized power has changed. It is not only the centralized power or political center that has changed; the sociological center, as well as Turkey's center in both the region and the world, has changed.

The former power of the state's narrow social base has expanded; vast masses that are more conservative, more nationalist have embraced the state. This social change gave the state apparatus a new backbone. Do you think this backbone is the AK Party base alone? Existence through change which has been ongoing for centuries has entered a new phase, and hence the state's lifespan has been extended through this change in the social base.

Unfortunately, Turkey's traditional opposition was unable to comprehend this change. It took opposition toward this backbone and though this was an internal affairs competition. This mistake led to other mistakes and certain political circles started to pose for photographs with terrorist organizations. It seems they might rapidly become marginalized and move further away from Turkey's backbone.

They are now shooting at Turkey

Is it solely political parties that make this mistake? No! Don't you see the majority of those who were part of the former “center” are being drifted? Don't you see the state of the media?

Everything's axis has changed from “mainstream media” to mainstream politics. A new political identity, position and perspective has prevailed in many fields ranging from military strategies to the state's political identity, from economy to the regional and world outlook. Can hatred toward President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan drift people so much as to support terrorism? Could the fights for power drag political circles to a point of insanity, leading them to become partners with terrorists and shoot at Turkey? The drifting away on the inside is as destructive and dangerous as the threat spreading from Syria to the region and to Turkey.

We are face to face with the reality that almost all circles that made up the “old center” have partnered with the PKK and other terrorist organizations, or they have become marginalized and have at least taken no attitude toward terrorism and have no intention to do so.

In a country where personal vendettas and preferences take precedence over common matters, where a broken window can become so important that 16 martyrs are forgotten, where the power of influence these circles have is turned toward the country and nation as a weapon, it is necessary to define the current positions of all anew.

Mainstream media prepared its own tragic end

In this sense, mainstream media has changed. They no longer represent the sensitivities of the backbone. They are also rapidly disintegrating from power of state, because they have become partners with a betrayal as grave as terror. They advertised it, defended it, camouflaged and encouraged it. This is such a drifting apart that they are no longer going to be able to set things straight and return to their former positions.

It is not possible for a media group that has blackmailed the state and its people through terrorism, that has nothing left but its capital – with the state side of that capital on shaky ground – to survive for long. Hence, the center in media will also change – and in fact, it has already started to change. That “mainstream media” has prepared its own tragic end through terrorism and bloodshed, by pointing the gun at the country with the PKK and the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C).

Syria can turn into a multinational war

Nov. 1 is a milestone. Do not forget, destabilization through terrorist organizations is not a cyclical matter. It will continue as such in this region for at least 20 years. Countries will be divided with maps redrawn. The Turkey phase of these map drafts has already been planned. It has been planned through the PKK, DHKP-C, Aydın Doğan's media outlets and certain political circles.

We need to follow very closely the war in Syria. This war can become regional and take on a multinational form, dragging Turkey into it.

Initially it was between the opposition and the regime. Then it turned into a war between organizations. Opposition organizations also turned onto one another. Real opposition was replaced by inauthentic ones, i.e. the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) was produced. Countries will follow. Even right now there is a covert war of countries.

Turkey besieged by PKK/YPG

Turkey is being besieged by the PKK/Democratic Union Party (PYD). In this siege, unfortunately, sides are being taken not against the oppositions in Syria, but against Turkey. Is it not striking that those supporting the PYD are allies of Turkey? Germany supplies arms to the People's Protection Units (YPG). They pass through Syria to enter Turkey and start city wars. It doesn't work that way. It doesn't work without questioning the U.K.'s ties with ISIL.

If we don't see Iraq and Syria as a single country, a single region and a single matter, if we don't prepare accordingly, then we are going to face the fatal realities. Add up all the losses caused by Iraq's instability and see what you get. Turkey was able to resist this heavy cost and remain standing. In fact, it has done more than remain standing; it took steps forward and this was perceived by our Western friends as a threat.

Add the medium-term expense of Syria to the injury we sustained in Iraq before making any considerations.

It's time to resist the operational invasion

We are all taking a test of patriotism and responsibility. We are all being tested on being Turkish. Look well at the waves that came in sequence in the last three years and were resisted by the country. Many countries may not have been able to resist even one of these.

While watching the great meeting against terrorism at Yenikapı yesterday, I rethought the “backbone” matter. This is not a political party's fight against a wind of disaster from the east and south, it is Turkey's fight.

If we lose, we won't be losing in the east or south, we will be losing in the west. We are going to lose Istanbul. Perhaps this is the plan, who knows!

It is time to resist the operational invasion.
