PYD/PKK set sights on the 80-kilometer area

I guess you liked the narrations using maps. So let's bring out the maps again. We will focus on the map of Syria, the northern area in particular.

Draw a green line from the north Iraq border all the way to Kobani. Write Democratic Union Party (PYD)/PKK on this line.

Now draw a black line starting from Kobani to Jarabulus and then to Afrin. This is an 80-kilometer line. Write Daesh on this line. Draw another green line from Afrin to the Hatay border and write PYD/PKK on this line too. This is how long Turkey's Syrian border is.

Now find the Euphrates River (this river passes west of Kobani.) Starting from the Turkey border, using a red pen, draw a thick line from north to south on the Euphrates. This is Turkey's red line for the PYD/PKK. The moment they pass the river, the Turkish army will intervene. Therefore, the military has completed all preparations and is on alert.

Now let's step back and take another look at the map. For the PYD/PKK to join its green lines and found an autonomous state, it needs to take the 80-kilometer area under Daesh rule, including Jarabulus. This area is Turkey's red line on the Euphrates.

The PYD/PKK is currently gathering fighters. It is reported that they are purchasing arms from the US, Russia, Iran, Germany and many other countries that we are not aware of. That is to say, they are preparing for a war.

The countries that are arming the PYD/PKK, are also supporting the foundation of an autonomous state/canton for the PYD (note that this doesn't include all Kurds) in the north of Syria. Don't be surprised, some of these countries are also our NATO allies.

Turkey's proposal to the US and allies

Turkey has expressed its red lines to these countries, completed military preparations, and is waiting on alert for the PYD/PKK to pass the Euphrates. Turkey will strike. It will strike no matter what the cost, and it already has a few times (From President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's speech on June 27, 2015.)

This was the proposal Turkey made to the coalition fighting Daesh, and the US: “Let's clear Jarabulus from Daesh, and place moderate opposition groups here to fight Daesh. This way we can keep the border under control.” However, it seems that the US wants to give this area to the PYD/PKK. Yet, seeing Turkey's determination, the US cannot do this outright.

Tactics to suppress Turkey

Since Turkey could not be persuaded through diplomatic means, other pressure factors have come into play. The PYD/PKK are saying, “Since you are not giving Jarabulus to us, we will then just have to burn down Silopi, Sur and Nusaybin.” Forget political science's “self-governance, self-management” nonsense, born from torture. Giving weapons to youth aged between 15-20 years of age, making them dig ditches in four-five neighborhoods of Diyarbakır and declaring “an autonomous state” is not only nonsense, but contradicts the law of physics. It doesn't sound rational to you either, does it?

Give us Jarabulus, and take Silopi

They too know that this isn't rational. They do not care about Silopi or Sur, they want Jarabulus. This is what it is like to threaten with death and hence convince to accept fever. “Let us pass through the Euphrates, invade Jarabulus, found the Kurdish state in north Syria, and in exchange we will give you Silopi and Sur.” This is the message. Do not forget that the US's silence toward Russia's operations in the region are a part of this message.

While we were discussing all these through symbols, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş overtly declared that they were going to found a Kurdish state, thus ruining my mystical expressions. His audacity didn't even surprise us. Immediately after this statement, they showed their written support to those who have been digging ditches to found a Kurdistan.

At the time of writing on the Prime Ministerial airplane, we are listening to Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu's speech from our journalist friend Hasan Öztürk's phone. “Take your smuggled tea and drink it with those in Qandil,” he says with a firm voice. Add presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın's statement to this too.

The government will give a firm answer to the PYD/HDP/PKK's daring statements. These are the issues we journalists will discuss in Belgrade tonight with Prime Minister Davutoğlu.
