The US’s defeat and Cairo Kalashnikov in old Europe

While Turkey is trying to spare itself from the trip ups of freaks like the June Movement that is inspired by/ a clone of Gezi  incidents, the real mind games of the piers, which support the global balances, are forming ceasefire agreements on the East-West border…

This phase of the “war” between Russia-Europe-US has resulted with the victory of the Kremlin, and now, everyone, who had been trying to justify the West in their columns and news over the democracy and civil rights, are required to explain how the US has taken a step back against Europe and Russia – we are not saying “old Europe” anymore!

As the handshakes were continuing in the negotiation room, the press in Turkey was using headlines like “Putin broke his pen out of anger”. True…. However, whose pen?

Until they get over/understand “what do you mean, did Europe go against US?” let us write about the unknown details, move on, and draw away by entering another “intended battle”….

What was it that compelled the White House, which announced their “spy is apparent” type of engagement like “From now on, in order to go to war, there should be an open attack against the American interests”, to take a step back against Russia?

The sum of the US’s fears was the agreement between Germany-France and Russia if no consent is reached in Ukraine. As Angela Merkel flew from Russia to America, she had taken two deposits with her; 1. Putin’s offer and “what he could give in exchange” and 2. The message that shows the halting point of elder Europe at a breaking point! (We won’t have enough space, thus we cannot go further in to the matter, and however, USA had taken something. It’s somewhere close to our region.)

The final contact following that was the phone call between Obama and Putin; the handshake was conducted during that phone call. The 16-hour long negotiations between Russia-Germany-France-Ukraine are not just a facade; however, it’s only over clauses and the ones shaking hands are Russia and the US. Actually, even if Obama’s statement, which he confessed on CNN at the beginning of the month, that comes to mean “Russia is in Ukraine because of us”, an incoming retreat would have been seen. (“Obama’s Ukraine confession”, 03/02 Sabah.)

The ceasefire, which will be active on the 15th in Ukraine, is extremely fragile and will have many enemies. There are many arsonists in Kiev and Washington; the new US Secretary of Defense, who had been assigned to take the wind out of their sails, is required to pursue these.

Much more can be written; however, we have to stop at this point and figure out what Putin was doing in Egypt while Merkel was in Washington. We are required to continue swiftly, and from the point of the readers of this column, the others are already old…

“AXIS DISLOCATION” in EGYPT

First of all, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin’s visit to Cairo is the extension of the rivalry between US – Russia, which presents itself concretely and starkly. Thus, Russia had said “I’m still here”.

Egypt is a country that is bound to private relations with the US. However! As we had stated previously in the European front; the US strategic axis has lost its central position in Egypt’s foreign policy. There is a “fear” of what would happen if there is no mono-polar world”. I’m correcting that phrase with “curiosity”.

What should be understood from the “axis dislocation” and the highest expectation of Russia from Egypt is; the possible escape of Cairo from the US’s control and every step Cairo takes towards independent foreign policy. That’s it. (The political seeds of the visit had been spread in Sisi’s visit to Russia in August 2014.)

We can find the sub-texts, which are challenging the US, of Moscow’s expectations from Egypt from the following sentences: “With the intention of ‘decreasing the dependency on the existing trends in the world markets’, Moscow and Cairo had discussed using their national currencies in order to exempt the US dollar.” (‘Interview to Al-Ahram daily’, 09/02, Presidency of Russia’s official website.)

“Today, the developments in Syria and Iraq are based on the clumsy and irresponsible interventions on the region from the outside, the single-sided power usage, “double standards”, and discriminating between the “good” and “bad” terrorists.” These sentences are from the statements Putin made to the Egyptian press. What’s the diplomatic exchange of saying “the evilness is caused by you” to another country while you are on a trip in some other country? Where does Egypt stand in this? (There are important leaps in the economic relations between two countries; in comparison to the last year, an expanding around 50 percent is being expected. Besides, Egypt is 40 percent dependent on Moscow to meet their need for wheat, which we could regard as strategic as energy.)

There are also existing political platforms that will ease the intimacy between Cairo and Moscow; for example, Russia won’t be criticizing Sisi’s doings in matters like “civil rights, democracy, religious tolerance”. And of course –it must also be noted in Ankara - the views of both countries on Damascus is the same. Egypt is not supporting a change in Damascus. What’s more, it seems that Egypt and Russia will be making moves as a team. As it’s known, Cairo had put an effort into being the host for the meetings of the Syrian opposition. It might have been that the idea of opening Egypt’s doors to the negotiations between the Syrian government and the oppositions Russia picks must have been born!

As for the Kalashnikov issue; it’s based on the press’ lust, which is excited whenever there is a weapon in the box, an assumption of finding Pandora’s Box.

Everyone understands the symbolism of Kalashnikov. The key is to understand the Egypt and Russia cooperation in the GLONASS satellite system. Then, what “strategic cooperation” is, and, how the other “strategic partners” got the Goosebumps, will be understood….
