All of humanity must question the West

Last week, Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar announced his resignation without any serious reason. Varadkar's unexpected decision surprised almost the entire world. Therefore, immediately after the press conference, Varadkar's speech at the White House for Saint Patrick's Day hosted by US President Joe Biden became a topic of discussion. The Irish Prime Minister clarified Ireland's stance on the events in Gaza to President Biden, stating, "We see our history through the eyes of the Palestinians; the story of displacement, confiscation of property, denial of national identity, forced migration, discrimination, and hunger..." According to Varadkar, what is happening in Gaza today reminds the Irish of their past and leads them to empathize with the Palestinians. "The people of Gaza are experiencing similar pains to the Irish. Like Ireland, Palestine is being colonized."

We recall Varadkar's words echoing the support of South Africans for Palestinians. South Africa was also a British colony for a long time. They, like the Irish, saw their history through the eyes of the Palestinians. We briefly mentioned the periods when the Republic of South Africa was a British colony for those who do not know the events. After World War II, the United States and Israel supported the apartheid regime in this British colony, based on Anglo-Saxon superiority. Africans experienced all the horrors of racial segregation. For those who want to see events from within, I can recommend novels such as "The Imam's Murder" and "Waiting for Barbarians". Books and films about the colonization of Palestine can also help understand the similarities. However, when it comes to Irish history, it becomes necessary to go back to the beginnings of the colonial periods. This makes it a bit more difficult to understand the similarities. Yet even James Joyce's monumental novel "Ulysses" could be read from this perspective. But when we consider that even a book like "Ulysses", which is considered one of the strongest works of postcolonial criticism today, is read in Turkey to prove the superiority of English, it is at least difficult for us to grasp the Irish past through the eyes of the Palestinians. Indeed, no one paid much attention to Varadkar's words to Biden. Perhaps when the similarities were discussed, such as the mass deaths caused by the potato famine, attention could have been drawn to them, but even with all its horror, this was reduced to a singular event.

It is quite clear that a century after James Joyce wrote "Ulysses," there has been no significant change in the attitudes of the United Kingdom and, of course, the United States. Varadkar's resignation immediately after saying that the Palestinians see their history through their eyes shows this. It is now necessary to reveal a truth with all its clarity. The United Kingdom and the United States are dragging the whole world into fire. There is probably no one unaware that all the responsibility for the incomprehensible horror experienced in Gaza for the past six months lies with these two countries. However, despite all these disasters, most people's faith in the West has not been shaken. They still ponder where to look for the faults of those under attack. Yet it is quite clear that speculating on an abstract Islamic world is not very healthy. Because they can also notice the prevalence of faith in the West based on themselves without the need for in-depth research.

Leo Varadkar says that Palestinians are displaced, their property is confiscated, their national identities are denied; they are condemned to forced migration, discrimination, and hunger. Today, this truth is forcing all humanity into an unprecedented division. When the Irish say they see their past through the eyes of the Palestinians, it is necessary to know that they are not just talking about the bitter memories of their own past. They are also aware that the whole world is being dragged into fire by the Anglo-Saxons. Israel raids hospitals and kills the wounded, rains bombs on ordinary people on the street, breaks the faith of children in the future by making them weary of life, and applies inhuman violence to women. Everyone knows that Israel cannot do these things on its own. Israel is the United States and the United Kingdom. They are sending a message to all humanity in Gaza. What is the relationship between this and looking for fault in ourselves?
