Are Palestine supporters shaping the streets of England?

The anti-Israel protests in the UK and the US are being closely monitored, prompting relevant institutions and politicians in these countries to try to develop a new approach in response to the increasing support for Palestinians. In this context, the statements by representatives of the British Labour Party alleging that radical Islamists have taken over the streets of England are indicative of a provocative new discourse. However, those taking to the streets for Palestine are ethnically diverse and not homogeneous in terms of religion. This means that while nearly the whole world is divided into pro-Palestine and pro-Israel factions in the face of Israel's brutality, factors such as race, religion, sect, and most importantly, geography are being set aside. The question arises whether we can consider this as a new form of globalization.

The brutal massacres by Israel, under the influence of Anglo-Saxons, have indeed led to the emergence of two separate global factions. This has also been reflected in the streets of England. However, British politicians have chosen to revive the category of radical Islamists with the habits of the past. The concept of extremist Islamists entered our agenda when they initiated a new invasion and occupation period for the Islamic geography of the US and the UK. The involvement of other party representatives and the British Prime Minister in the agenda of the British Labour Party spokespersons indicates that a new step will be taken regarding the streets. It is very clear that they want to silence the streets. They have clearly shown that they will not allow the public opinion to be shaped in favor of Palestinians and that intervention will be made from above.

It is not unknown that the title of Britain and democracy has occupied the agenda of the whole world for years. However, this new situation is quite beyond the context of democracy. We are in a period when the political style displayed by the UK and the US in the new era is not discussed in the context of Western values. There is even a noticeable decrease in the number of those accused of applying double standards to the West. It is almost globally known that the UK and the US deliberately fuel the war in Ukraine and are complicit in Israel's brutality. They would not want such a partnership to be seen during the Cold War and in earlier periods. However, today, they demonstrate that they want to keep standing the colonial structure they have built in Palestine at all costs. We can say that the West assigns completely temporal meanings to the issue of values. This also indicates that if the conditions do not reach the dimensions desired by the Anglo-Saxons, the issue of values will be subject to much more comprehensive discussions.

So why did British politicians see the movement supporting Palestinians on the streets of England and in the "public" sphere as a problem? Did British politicians confront an ordinary helplessness by voicing that democracy is under threat, leaving aside the brutal killings of Palestinians by Israel? After October 7, they had banned the protests in favor of Palestinians; now they are voicing that they are threatened. In this context, does their bringing up extremism and opposition to democracy indicate their concern about a revival in favor of Palestinians in public opinion? Undoubtedly, such changes will open the door to much more different discussions. The issue of Palestine has ceased to be just the Palestine issue and has become part of the questioning of Anglo-Saxon global hegemony. Therefore, they want to divert the new form of opposition that emerges around the issue of Palestine, essentially shaped by Islamism, to a different direction. The equation of opposition to democracy and Islamism worked in the past.

They also know that support for Palestinians cannot be explained by an ideology like Islamism. Because the resistance of Palestinians suggests the possibility of a new, continent- and country-wide polarization from Brazil to South Africa, from the UK to Germany, from Spain to Italy. As can be immediately noticed, it is impossible to reduce such broad participation to a mechanistic structure or ideology. Perhaps we can ask whether there is continuity between the spread of Marxism and today's polarization. It is also not possible to define this new polarization with religious concepts. As in the Muslim world, where there are countries and environments that beat with the hearts of Anglo-Saxons, on the other hand, those who support Palestinians are not only Muslims.
