From cheap Spanish gold to the Scottish Referendum

Not only today, but actually for centuries, the things happening at one edge of the world have also been deeply affecting the other edge. The only difference is the effects are occurring sooner.

Who did this gold, which had been introduced to the market when Spain possessed a suddenly inflated economy after plundering the region’s gold and silver following the discovery of the American continent, hit before Spain itself?

Of course the Ottoman economy.

They had bought out everything that had been produced with excessive gold and caused hyperinflation in a short time.

Not just the Ottomans, but also Iran’s economy had gone into shock.

This gold, which had reached even Iran, was passing to India from there... I don’t know what kind of effects it had on them. During that time, we had begun quarreling with the Safavid administration on the topic of who will buy and sell the silk. We had captured Ethiopia in order to secure the silk trading route. In the end, gold is raining down from another world; and alternatives to the known trading routes were being discovered. The Jelali Revolts, which is the name of the biggest stir and riot ever experienced in the Anatolia lands, had blasted by triggering the deep damage in the economy; it had continued for more than a century and cost hundreds of thousands of lives.

A discovery in the 15th century could become one of the main reasons of a riot thousands of kilometers away after, a couple of centuries later.

Also, all the troubles brought to the Spanish Emperorship because of the gold are another matter.

Since sufficient precautions were not taken during the next period, the historians had no doubt that this had paved the way for the road that started the regression and our collapse.

Thus, while important developments that happened hundreds of years ago are giving birth to persistent and great effects on the rest of the world, isn’t it clear that the happenings today will have great effects all over the world again? Similar to how the birth of ISIL, which we continuously discuss but fail to make a proper description, cannot be independent from the Iraq invasion, I wonder what will be the developments it will trigger from now on?

Who knows what these new international operations in the region under the USA’s leadership will give birth to?

How will the civil war in Ukraine come to an end? Will the country be divided?

Will the independence referendum, which will come out of Scotland, issue have no relevance to all these?

Wars, struggles, independence demands, autonomy, new states... all of these had cultural, religious, social and communal reasons, without a doubt.

However, overlooking the fact that economy is one of the strongest motivations behind these is nothing more than fading the truth in order to reach the objective.

In this bloody war, the ideological, nationalist or religious sermons, slogans and statements, which have no other meaning than heroism that is free of oil, natural gas or other trading goods’ routes’ control, have no real equivalent. If Scots choose independency, then the Iraq Kurdistan Regional Administration will keep the “separating from the center” topic more in their agenda. Since ISIL is already forming a threat perception, which will give birth to all the reasons for the West; from this point of view, not only Erbil but also Kandil must be thinking that their maneuver area has expanded, since there had been a lot of development to the detriment of the Resolution Process.

After decades, in which no other name than Kamışlı had been enunciated in regards to the Kurds in northern Syria, now Rojawa, Şengal, Afrin and Serekaniye have entered the literature.

Other actors’ situation or history cannot be compared to the Scots’ demands and past or their history within Britannia.... but the phase will pass like this.

Because of this, we won’t be asked to pay attention to the differentiation of whether the national costume of the Scotland “Kilt” had been formed by the flags of their struggle with the colonists or the imposition of the capitalism after the Industry Revolution.

If it were only up to local actors, the Middle East would be a different world already... but it doesn’t happen so. Nobody is asking what the great powers’ plans are, including Syria and the reckoning over Ukraine, which should be counted as Syria’s projection in the North. What are their calculations?

Think about it. At the end of the1500s, Spain was supporting the Irish guerillas during their most splendent period in order to get them to fight with their enemy England that is on the other coast...

Dominic popes, who were making archeological studies in the region, were some of the people who had reported the highly secretive studies of the Ottoman’s before the Canal Movement during World War I to the English Intelligence Agency. Then they had objected to the colonization of the region... but what’s done was done.

Scots or others can demand independency without a doubt. But whether the matter is an intellectual discussion is doubtful.

From what I know, the name of Edirne is originated from Roman Emperor Hadrian, who had also constructed the wall that separates England from Scotland...

In brief, we get confused sometimes over the question of whether our past or, on the contrary, our future is what we assume as history.
