Everybody knows and acknowledges that the current depreciation of the Turkish lira against U.S. Dollar has nothing to do with either the Turkish or U.S. economy.
Currently, the U.S. economy is not growing stronger compared to Turkey's in a day's time, nor has the dollar's increase in value anything to do with it. Turkey's economic indicators do not give any sign for the depreciation of the lira at such levels. On the contrary, all the economic indicators of Turkey show that Turkey's economy is much more powerful.
As a result, since no one has any doubt any more that the crisis is just political, not economic, the effect of the crisis is attenuated with each passing day. The U.S. is destroying all the confidence in itself and the dollar, by using the currency as a weapon, as a trump card.
This is accelerating the search for alternatives to the dollar and American hegemony, not only in Turkey but all over the world. For a long time now, everybody has been dissatisfied with the immorality of this hegemony, its belligerent recklessness. This said dissatisfaction has come to boiling point with the sanctions imposed on Turkey.
So the U.S., which is attempting to impose political supremacy on Turkey by using the dollar as leverage so openly, does not have any allies to support it. Almost all EU countries took up a position against the U.S. due to this immoral abuse of the exchange rate.
As a matter of fact, the latest operation has turned into a further step of the process that we have dubbed as a self-siege, self-seclusion of the United States.
Actually, politicians who are nearing the end of their political career go and take a swing at Erdoğan. So far there is no one who took a swing at President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in their political career and lived to tell the political tale. It is possible to interpret this step of Trump as the end of his and his team's political life.
In fact, so far, there has been a desire to resist the growing dissatisfaction against America's brash economic recklessness, but no one dared to express it as openly as Erdoğan.
Trump's decision to withdraw from the Transatlantic Customs Union agreement between the EU and the U.S., established by Obama, with which Trump violated all international diplomatic and commercial conventions, has already provoked a serious dissatisfaction with Trump's U.S. in Europe. Trump’s attitude, insulting Germany and his arrogant and discourteous manner against nearly all European nations during NATO meeting, and his belittlement of the Queen during his visit to England have already caused an increase of antipathy against Trump, but no one has dared to take on the United States.
The emperor had no clothes, but even though Emperor Trump doesn’t even bother to pretend he’s wearing anything, no one had courage to tell him the naked truth. However, due to this crisis, Erdoğan has expressed the grudge nursed inevitably by all, and articulated everyone's feelings and observations. EU countries, which have probably always been disturbed by Erdoğan's rhetoric as a representative of Turkey, have now found a common point between their hearts and the sincere, forthright and brave heart of Erdoğan.
As for Turkey, the most important effect of an economic crisis of that size so far is that it caused a nation-wide unity, solidarity and engagement. This is probably an unexpected and never-calculated effect by putschists or coup supporters just like the ones on July 15.
They will soon realize that continuing operations through the dollar will have no effect other than increasing their losses further. Because the operation against the Turkish lira has a price. Do not ever think this operation is possible for free. As a result, they have to buy the Turkish lira to buy dollars and such an exchange is not free. We do not even mention the cost of withdrawing from the Turkish market, and losing it.
Those behind this operation assumed that this process may end up in a social explosion, however they have been greatly disappointed by seeing the Turkish nation’s solidarity. Their solidarity aside, all these scenes of support for the Turkish lira against the dollar from the whole Muslim world turns out to be an opportunity to show how far Turkey's geography of compassion and the leadership of Erdoğan have stretched. From now on, those who ask for trouble with Turkey are not only taking 52,6 percent of Erdoğan supporters on, but also the 1.7 billion Muslims, and beyond that a great hope from Latin America to India and from China to Russia.
What Brunson and July 15 have to do with the current events
In the meantime, we should never think that events are related to the Pastor Brunson case. If it was, the approach of U.S. officials against Turkey would not coincide with the evening of which the two year jail sentence of Brunson was changed to house arrest. After all, the first messages from the U.S. after the court decision that day expressed their contentment. That was a normal attitude after such a development.
But the process started with Pence's statement and Trump's tweet only a few hours later, revealing the fear of losing such an excuse like Brunson to start a more profound operation against Turkey.
If Brunson had been released that day, the U.S. authorities would need a bit more time to find a more valid excuse.
As you can see, the fact that such an operation was launched on the day of Brunson's partial release resembles a panic when the putschists were obliged to bring forward the date of July 15 coup attempt from 03:00 a.m. in the morning to 21:00 p.m. the previous day after being panic-stricken with Hakan Fidan's visit to Hulusi Akar.
Those who want to can of course connect Brunson and the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) by deriving from this behavior or panic similarities. What do you think?
