History should be taken as a lesson, not hatred; in respect of 1915

2015 is being evaluated as an entire year of the Armenian Diaspora’s revenge for the happenings a century ago. Thus, all their watches have been set for this date. They seem to be determined to assert all the lobby and propaganda activities to the detriment of Turkey within this year. Some existing factors are making their task easy. There are a lot of potential world customers, who are ready to buy and accept all kinds of news against Turkey. There is also an ideological platform, which prompts this customer mass to consume this type of erroneous news with hunger. As Prime Minister Davutoğlu stated in last week’s group meeting, “They are trying to shadow Turkey, which is writing a success story in every field”. They are already inclined to be easily convinced that there is nothing new and unique in this story; all they need to hear is any made-up news.

Actually, this situation, which is substantially feeding on orientalist, ideological conditioning, is forming an opportunity, from which, not only the Armenian Diaspora, but also, all the groups who conduct propaganda activities against Turkey, are benefitting. In fact, this platform, which rebounds with a prevalent position to the refutable claims of the whole world and from which the Parallel structure can benefit, is in itself the orientalist-ideological platform.

Even though there are no people arrested because of their journalism activities, the people, who had been on trial or convicted because of allegations like terror, murder, thievery, document forgery, violation of personality rights, were included in international lists as “journalists”. When we look at the fuss, who and how it convinces, the alliance is spotted clearly. Actually, if the 1915 case can be opened with all its aspects, then it could be seen that there exists even more data, which will have Turkey in the accusation position rather than a defense position against the whole world. The people, who are trying to reach the conditions of 1915 from the present time, parliaments and lobby centers and those who are attempting to reach verdicts over these conditions, are unable to say a couple of words about the massacres happening right in front of their noses.

The genocide in Syria had already turned into a savagery. Three thousand people had been killed in Egypt in a single day. And around five thousand people are being kept in prisons, where they are being arbitrarily tortured and are surviving under difficult conditions, and within a couple of minutes hundreds of people are being issued a death penalty. However, we can’t hear a single word on this matter from the people who want to take Turkey back to 1915, in other words, actually to a completely dark environment in the sense of evidences, and imprison Turkey there. The intention behind going back to 1915 and bringing that oppression to the present time is not a humane sensitivity as it is claimed. If the objective is to give humankind a lesson of “this should not happen again” on the matter of humanity crimes, then, that “shouldn’t happen” is happening today, right in front of your eyes. Raking over the coals of the past and the zealotry of facing the past only generates the feeling of revenge and hatred. Ultimately, this brings no benefit to what had happened and the deceased people. However, the incidents, which are happening right in front of our eyes, and deaths can be prevented if we assert a right attitude. It can even stop the murderers and call them to account; this way we can save people from being tortured.

Honestly, we wouldn’t want to go back. However, if we are to return to 1915, Turkey would not be on the defense, rather, would be the prosecution. Of course, if we do go back to 1915, we won’t be only looking at the part related with Armenians. We should go back to 1912 and even further back, to 1877.

The meaning of the relocation of Armenians needs to be explained under the dynamism caused by the wars in those years.

Only during the 1912 Balkan Wars, around 1.5 million Muslims had been slaughtered or relocated. During the periods, where almost all the Muslim men who could carry a gun were at the fronts in the Dardanelles Battle, in the days, when the stories of the miserable lives of refugees relocated in Istanbul and Anatolia were spread everywhere, the point in question was that; the happenings in the Balkans will be conducted against the Turks and Muslims in Anatolia by the Armenians.

Let’s go back in time even further, to the last years of the 1890s. In that period, Armenians were minorities in the majority of lands that belong to Armenia nowadays. However, today, Armenia’s population is almost completely full of Armenians. Besides, the Armenians, who had been separated from their land after the relocation decision in Turkey under such environment, had been transported to other Ottoman lands, not outside Ottoman lands. In other words, the objective was not about annihilating Armenians, but on the contrary, to transport them to regions that is more secure for both sides.

If we are to rake through history, we can find things that’ll bother us, as well as find things that will serve our purpose. Of course, we need to learn this from this lesson; however, the lesson we request from history should not be a lesson which we will impose on history.

While going back in history, the Armenian Diaspora is trying to bring out results that will add to the most archaic, most negative feelings; feelings of revenge, grudge and hatred. This situation is rightfully pushing Turks to go back in history with the same motivation as a reaction. Thus, history transforms into an agnostic field, where the truth will never be found.

However, by taking heed of the call of the Book, we can say the following and together join the construction of a propitious future: “They were a generation, which had come and gone. There are no shares for either side; neither from our account to theirs nor theirs to ours”...
