The possibility of normalization of Turkey-Israel relations and Egypt's apprehension

There is a process, even if progressing at a snail's pace, for normalization of ties between Turkey and Israel. As a matter of fact, Turkey was not the country responsible for rupturing relations with Israel. As can be remembered, relations with Israel were quite strained upon the reaction of the prime minister of the time, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at Davos, following Israel's attacks on Gaza and in which hundreds of civilians died. However, despite having good relations with Israel prior to this, Turkey did not hesitate to harshly criticize Israel, particularly since its attack on Lebanon in 2006, both on this matter and in general on the Palestine matter. After Davos, Israel's then deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, Daniel Ayalon, had treated Turkey's then Ambassador to Israel Oğuz Çelikkol in a way that disregarded diplomatic courtesy and customs. Israel's Mavi Marmara raid had taken place at a time when there was debate on what the effects of the development publicly known as the “low seat crisis” would be.
