UK referendum and EU's future

The much-awaited result of the referendum in the United Kingdom has been determined. The majority of the UK voted to opt out of the European Union. We can say that this has created an interesting picture. Before evaluating this picture, it would be beneficial to talk about the period leading up to the referendum. The first thing that needs to be mentioned is that the campaigns both the “leave” and “remain” supporters carried out were rather unsuccessful. The campaigning concentrating on Turkey's EU membership issue resulted from the mistakes made in the way the campaigns were conducted. Political parties that campaigned for Britain's “exit” argued that the U.K. should not remain in a union in which Turkey would become member. The so-called reformist and progressivist parties mobilizing the already existing Islamophobia through Turkey and creating an identity crisis shows just how dodgy these campaigns were.

In conclusion we can say that the people of Britain voted for the future of the EU. This referendum not only concerns the EU but Turkey which is in the process of negotiating for EU membership. As I said earlier, Turkey is the only country that can pull the EU out of this chaotic situation and recreate a sense of trust for the people of this union. However, if the situation continues as is, there may be no European Union left in the next few years.
