Traces of pain and hope in the earthquake zone…

When we entered Adana at night, we relaxed a bit: We did not encounter those devastating and terrible traces of the earthquake.

We slept on sofas made of cedar and on the floor mattress.

We woke up to the call of morning prayer.

We set off with our MTO Adana representative, Mustafa Beyaz, and our two young brothers. Our target is Hatay…

First, we stopped by Iskenderun: Although Iskenderun did not suffer great losses like other cities, the city almost resembled a ghost town.

AFAD's big tent city draws our attention. Red Crescent teams settled in a school and were distributing soup to earthquake victims.

In the school opposite, IHH has settled down: it has become an Earthquake Coordination Center.

We also drank soup, although it didn't go down our throats easily.

Then, IHH officials gave detailed information about the work done. many thanks to them.

We wandered the wrecks with my brother Mujahid. There is a smell, the less you know about it the better… It is one that pierces right through a person's heart.

There are only soldiers and police patrolling the empty streets. Good thing they are. Without these, chaos would engulf the environment.

We are on our way to Kisecik, Hatay. Under the leadership of my brother, IHH Önder Özkan, who established an enormous coordination and logistics center in a primary school. We meet with my brother Yusuf Alpaydın. Hatay has been destroyed, it is difficult to find almost solid buildings! Wreckage, corpses, and teams working busily... People waiting for their relatives to be removed from the wreckage, alive or dead, at the head of the wreckage...

Man is passing into a different world. It's like an apocalyptic scene...

The city, which harbors one of the most deep-rooted civilization accumulations of humanity, has been destroyed. The most rooted works and temples of all three religions have been destroyed!

Provocateurs who will use Hatay to confuse the country should not be given an opportunity, and everyone should be stretched out, taking care not to make any discrimination in Hatay.

We are going to Nurdagi. We are visiting my brother Israfil Bahar and his family, who have been dying and resurrected for days to get his closest relatives and brothers out of the rubble.

Nurdağı was also destroyed. There is great destruction. Again, AFAD has set up crowded tent cities everywhere. People's eyes are bloodshot... Their faces are as if deep traces of an age-old ordeal and struggle...

Still, people do not raise the flag of surrender. They are trying to get together…

The fortitude and patience of my brother Israfil shakes us. His heart is burning, but he does not show it. He has Muslim fortitude, nobility, and sadness on his face.

We enter Gaziantep in the evening.

Gaziantep's city center was not affected much by the earthquake.

As all MTO teams, we are meeting at the house of our Gaziantep representative, Gökçe Bilge Törer Hanım.

Men and women fill separate rooms. Meetings, greetings and hugs between men are very impressive. The spirit of brotherhood pervades the room. We hug each other like we've known each other for forty years. Who knows what's going on on the ladies' side? Tears flowed and flowed…

Muharrem Kartancı, Serkan, Ramazan Köroğlu, Alperen Yılmaz, Ömer Berkay, Hikmet Çolak, Durmuş Can, Zafer Sevil, Halim Bülbül, and among the ladies Sümeyye Bülbül, Fadime Şener, İnsel Balcı, we all visit our sister Gülsüm in the morning. He has a lot of pain on his face.

This pain shakes us. It's the same with his mother and father. First, a Quran recitation. Then a simple breakfast on the floor table…

The time to leave is very difficult…

I'm trying to look at my brother's face, I can't… Is the picture of pain that deep! “We are here brother, do not be sad. You are not alone." I say.

Then we go for a second condolence. When we come to the place of condolence, her father, family and our sister Şeyma greet us.

I am looking for our Gaziantep Governor Davut Gül Bey. We are meeting at the AFAD Coordination Center. Our governor is working hard. Crews are like bees. We are getting information from our governor with Deputy Minister Mehmet Ersoy. On our way out, we meet our Gaziantep Mayor Fatma Şahin. We send our condolences to him as well.

Adıyaman is next and we have many brothers to visit.

But first, I'm looking for the troubled man, the beautiful person Besni Mayor Mehmet Emre. They established a coordination center at the entrance of the city. The president, dressed in earthquake clothes, is working hard with all his teams. He greets us at the door. We go inside, we see the works in place. We get some information and leave. We are meeting with Ertan Polat in Adıyaman. Our brother Büşra Yalçın and Onur Alpler are arranging the university as a meeting place.

Feyza Karabacak, one of our MTO assistants from Istanbul, is also there. He has been on the field in Adıyaman for days.

We are recruiting our teacher Hafzullah Çelebi from our Bolu MTO management team from the Earthquake Coordination Center. He came to the region for the second time yesterday when he learned that we were coming. He is one of the indomitable examples of the Anatolian spirit, like Onur.

We get into the cars and go to the coordination center of IHH in Adıyaman. Here we are meeting with our sister Ayşegül Sert from MTO. This is a huge place. It's like camping. Trucks go in and out… People are running back and forth…

We meet Zeki Bulduk: He is serving tea. He has become an Indian sage. 18th century Indian nobleman!

There is a great organization and coordination work here.

When you go to Adıyaman, you can't go back without stopping by Menzil. His Excellency Saki welcomes us. We perform evening and night prayers there. We drink our soups. We are having a nice Hasbihal.

"Stay here, rest, you'll be able to leave in the morning, sir," he says. We are about 20 people. We would like to thank Kahta and stop by the house of our sister Zeynep Arslan, who did a tremendous job despite her pain in our great coordination work during the earthquake. We win the heart of his family.

And we are quickly on our way to Kahramanmaraş …

Asım Bey and his team have been waiting for us for hours. We only arrive in Maraş at 1:00 am. Maras breaks our hearts. There is great destruction. We are very sorry.

Your MTO Maraş representative, Asım Demirdöğen, is one of the secret heroes of this earthquake, one of the saviors of Maraş. GSB opened its dormitory, which is parallel to the Ebrar site of which he is the manager, to earthquake victims. They eat, drink, dress, and dry the tears of the people of Marash.

Then we go to our sister Zehra, who was pulled out of the rubble and lost her husband and father, at 2:00 am. The fortitude of her mother and herself comfort us.

Since it is very late, we cannot make another condolence visit. We can only talk to my sister Hayriye Bolat by phone.

We set off to Istanbul, sadly. It's a 15-hour journey. No sleep. We take a nap in the car.

As long as this nation protects its spirit, no one can bring this nation to its knees. The earthquake should be turned into an opportunity for our society to recover and create a great spirit of brotherhood.

No matter what happens, we will overcome this great earthquake hand in hand, and we will build a better tomorrow by bandaging our wounds, by Allah's grace...
