Asian markets post losses, Europe retreats from records

Indices in Asia end 3-day winning streak

Major stock markets in Asia closed with losses on Thursday to end their three-day winning streak, while three European indices have retreated from their record high levels.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, lost 14 points, or 0.36%, to close at 3,913.

Tokyo's Nikkei 225 stock exchange decreased 55, or 0.2%, to 28,015 points.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, plummeted 142 points, or 0.53%, to 26,517. China's Shanghai stock exchange was down 7 points, or 0.22%, to 3,524 points.

After hitting record levels on Wednesday, major indices in Europe showed some retreat.

The STOXX Europe 600, which includes around 90% of the market capitalization of the European market in 17 countries, was down less than a point, or 0.1%, to 474.76 as of 0940GMT.

Germany's DAX 30 was up 0.24% to 15,861, while Spain's IBEX 35 increased 0.17% to 8,991.

London's FTSE 100 saw a new all-time high of 7,220.70 earlier in the session, but it was trading at 7,210 points at the time.

The French CAC 40 renewed its record with 6,873.04 for a 0.14% daily gain before retreating to 6,867 points.

And, Italy's FTSE MIB was up 0.23% at 26,521 points after hitting a fresh all-time high of 26,538.70.
