Half of Russia's holidaymakers have chosen Turkey as their travel destination, according to a report released by the Association of Tour Operators in Russia (ATOR), citing estimates by the country's tour operators and agents.

The report included Turkey-bound early booking figures from as early as September of last year in the study, “Russian tourists missed Turkey“. The report found that the citizens also want to take advantage of the discounts offered by early booking.

Recent gains made by the Russian Ruble, coupled with the sizeable discounts offered by Turkish hotels were among the factors credited by the report for the increase in bookings for Turkey.

Compared to booking figures from 2015, early reservations to Turkey have doubled, comprising 50% of overall booking, while destinations like Greece, Bulgaria, Spain and other cities in Russia made up the other half.

The Turkish cities of Antalya, Side and Kemer are once again among the most sought after travel destinations for Russian holidaymakers in Turkey, with hotels offering discounts that at times may reach 50 percent in certain regions.
