The U.S.-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has topped a list of global university rankings for the year 2019.
The extensive list, which is released annually by ranking website QS, ranked 1000 of the world’s best universities.
In its 15th edition, MIT was declared by QS as the world’s leading university for the record-breaking 7th consecutive year, surpassing a record it previously shared with the U.S.’s Harvard University.
US institutions have retained all top four positions with Stanford coming in at 2nd place, followed by Harvard and Caltech in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
The University of Oxford was ranked 5th globally and the U.K.’s top university for the first time since the U.S. began compiling standalone rankings in 2011.
A number of Turkish universities also figured prominently in the list, including Koç University, Bilkent University and Sabancı University.
