Two cities of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are set to go in lockdown as of Tuesday night, the country's health minister said.

Speaking to the Bayrak Radio Television Corporation, Ali Pilli said the details of the measures to be taken against the novel coronavirus will be announced by the Higher Committee for Infectious Diseases during the day.

A Cabinet meeting slated for today is also expected to take new decisions regarding the pandemic.

In a Monday statement, Pilli noted that the number of virus cases reached 2,071 in the country, while 264 of them are under treatment. He said there are five patients in the intensive care unit.

A total of 14 people have lost their lives to COVID-19 in the TRNC, which is home to some 385,000 people.
