A total of 64 people were convicted and sentenced to jail on Friday for being members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), the group behind last year’s defeated coup, according to judicial sources.

The 2nd Criminal Court in central Nevsehir province handed jail terms to 10 FETÖ members, ranging from six to eight years.

They were convicted on charges of being a member of the terrorist group and opposing the law on preventing financial support for terrorism.

The 4th High Criminal Court in central Kayseri province handed down jail terms to six FETÖ convicts ranging from four to ten years on the charge of being a member of armed terror group.

On the same charge, two people were convicted and sentenced to six years and three months in jail in Black Sea province of Rize, while a former teacher was sentenced to almost nine years in northern Bartin province.

In eastern Erzincan province, a high court sentenced a convicted FETÖ member to 15 years in jail on the charge of being a leader of the armed terror group.

FETÖ and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup attempt of July 15, 2016, which left 250 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETÖ of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.
