8 suspects arrested in Turkey anti-drug operations

Anti-narcotics operations have been carried out in Aydin, Sakarya, Tekirdag, Sivas, Adiyaman provinces

At least eight suspects have been arrested during anti-narcotics operations across Turkey, security sources said on Thursday.

In southwestern Aydin province, two suspects were arrested during an operation using a sniffer dog. The suspects were later remanded in custody for producing and trading drugs.

Two kilograms (4.4 pounds) of marijuana, 10 grams of methamphetamine and a gun with seven bullets were seized during the operation.

In another operation in northwestern Sakarya province, a total of 1,001 ecstasy pills, a gun and eight cartridges were seized; a suspect was also remanded in custody.

In northwestern Tekirdag, two more suspects were arrested after police found over one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of drugs inside a parked car.

In Sivas, a central Anatolian province, 45 grams of bonsai was found inside the shoes of a driver of a car.

Separately, in southeastern Adiyaman province operation, two suspects were arrested and around 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds) of powdered marijuana was seized. The suspects were later remanded in custody by an Adiyaman court.
