The ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) issued a joint declaration against terrorism, stressing a common stance against terrorism.

In the declaration, the parties noted that the General Assembly is aware of its national responsibility in this regard. “The terrorist attack has been inspired by historical aspirations targeting the unity of Turkish nation as well as the integrity and solidarity of the Turkish Republic," the statement said.

The parties reiterated their commitment to displaying a determined stance against terrorism regardless of their political rhetoric. “To serve as interpreter for determination against terrorism and to feel sympathy for common grief is more important than all political and ideological affiliations," the statement said.

The declaration was signed by AK Party's Group deputy Chair Naci Bostancı, CHP's group Deputy Chair Levent Gök and MHP's group Deputy Chair Oktay Vural.

The pro-Kurdish People's Democracy Party (HDP) is the sole opposition party that refused to sign the joint declaration representing the country's response against terrorism above politics. HDP also avoided signing a joint declaration criticizing a car bomb attack which left 29 dead and injured 60 in the Turkish capital a month ago.

HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş has been accused of being a mouthpiece of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, EU and United States.

The declaration comes after Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş called on all political parties to issue a joint declaration against terrorism to take a common stand.

“We believe releasing a joint declaration will help create a common perspective against terrorism in the Turkish public in such an environment that the Turkish public has been thrust into," Kurtulmuş said on Monday.
