A delegation of Argentine press members arrived in Istanbul on Friday as part of a program organized by Turkey’s Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK), aiming at improving ties between the two countries.

During the event held in the Istanbul headquarters of the board, Alpay Guler, the deputy chairman of DEIK/Turkey-Argentina Business Council, informed the delegation about Turkey’s economy and the great investment opportunities it has.

Guler also touched on the cultural aspects of the bilateral ties between Turkey and Argentina, pointing out the high level of interest Argentines showed in Turkish films and TV series.

Among the 18-member Argentine delegation was Ariel Cohen Sabban, the president of the Delegation of Argentine Israeli Association (DAIA), who attended the program on the invitation of the Turkish-Jewish community.

Ambassador Kaan Esener, the deputy undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also spoke at the event and told the delegation that Turkey was very keen on improving the current level of relations between the two countries, which, he noted, was not at a desired level.

The trade volume between Turkey and Argentina in 2017 stood at approximately $610 million, which also remained below expectations.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid a visit to Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires in January 2017, making it the first high-level diplomatic visit in 18 years.
