A huge cache of arms and ammunition was seized by Turkish security forces following an operation in the country's southeastern region against the PKK terror group, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

Commando teams and special forces of provincial gendarmerie forces carried out a search in the rural areas of the Silopi district of the Sirnak province as part of the Eren 10 anti-terror operation on Tuesday, said the statement.

The security forces destroyed shelters and caves used by terrorists.

At least two RPG-7 rocket launchers, riffles, 61 grenades, 107 electric detonators, five handmade explosive key systems, 18 handmade explosive assemblies, 50-meter detonating cord, four kilograms (8.8 pounds) of explosives, and 23,450 cartridges of various diameters belonging to the terror group were seized.

Also, two handmade explosive assemblies laid on the village road were destroyed.

In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
