A 116-year-old Turkish woman in the northeastern Artvin province has beaten the coronavirus.

After staying with her children in Bursa province for a while, Fatma Akyuz returned to her village in Artvin and became ill.

When her condition worsened, she went to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

Akyuz stayed in the hospital for a day when her COVID-19 test came out positive. She was then discharged to continue treatment at home.

“I was treated at the hospital for one day. I could not stay in the hospital, I wanted to go home. My children looked after me at home, thank God I got well,” she said.

Her daughter, Sengul Atun, said that they feel happy that her mother recovered from the disease.

Atun urged people to follow hygiene rules and wear face masks to protect against the virus.

As of Wednesday, Turkey reported a total of 558,517 coronavirus patients and 447,361 of them have fully recovered. The country's death toll stands at 15,531.
