Azerbaijan’s president on Tuesday received a group of top Turkish parliamentarians in the capital Baku.

According to a statement from the Azerbaijani presidency, President Ilham Aliyev, meeting with Samil Ayrik, head of the Turkey-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, voiced his satisfaction with the current level of relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Saying that the two countries are the closest countries in the world today, Aliyev added that meetings at the presidential level and mutual visits at different levels are important for the further consolidation of friendship between the two countries and for identifying new areas of cooperation.

Citing last year’s inauguration of two important energy projects, TANAP, and the STAR refinery, Aliyev asked the delegation to convey his greetings to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Ayrim also drew attention to the strength of Turkey-Azerbaijan relations, stating that Aliyev successfully continues the legacy of late President Haydar Aliyev. He also said that Azerbaijan gained great influence in the international arena and achieved rapid growth.

Also present at the meeting were parliamentarians from the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, Orhan Erdem, Ibrahim Aydemir, Yunus Kilic, Tulay Kaynarca, Mehmet Erdogan, opposition MP from Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Yasar Karadag and Turkey's Ambassador to Baku Erkan Ozoral.
